Introduction

Imagine a world where procrastination doesn't exist.

People won’t feel stressed, overwhelmed or upset just by looking at their tasks for the day. No one would complain about, analyze, fear or put off what needs to be done. They will just do it. By simply starting, being focused, doing a small part of it, and then the next one.

Then, many more people would be successful. Many books would have been finished and published. Many goals would have been achieved and dreams - come true.

But that’s not the world we live in. Although it might be.

We let procrastination - the desire to do anything else but the important task in front of us - control us.

It leads us to dark places, where we feel hopeless. We turn to distractions, face fear and anxiety, we don’t feel happy, we think and analyze too much and never feel accomplished.

We put things off for later. But later becomes never. And things don’t get done.

But if we really understand what’s going on when we try to start working on a task, we’ll see that it’s not procrastination itself, but other elements.

Like worrying about not having enough time to complete it, not being ready, or thinking we’re not good enough to do that. Having many others things to do, not being sure if it’s that important, not knowing where to start or what to do, not being sure if now is the right time, etc.

These are all excuses our mind comes up with. And they’re an illusion.

But if we eliminate them, all that is left will be us and the task. And when nothing can stop us from doing it, we’ll just start.

In this book I’ll analyze each of the reasons why we procrastinate. I’ll define the problem and offer a solution.

You’ll recognize what makes you procrastinate once you get to the right chapter. And then you can simply follow the advice. It’s all about little changes in our mindset, realizing some important things and taking the first step towards being more productive.

There’s nothing complex about the things that cause procrastination. But getting clear about them is crucial. As only when an issue is defined, can we do something about it.

So let’s dive in.

1. The big picture scares you.

Have you ever found yourself putting off something for later just because even the thought of it makes you feel overwhelmed?

Too many people face that situation daily. Be it for something super important, or a small daily task.

And the consequences are huge and negative. It often leads to ruining your whole day, feeling stressed, wasting too much precious time, disappointment (as we know we should already be working on it), feeling bad about ourselves and losing hope that we can get anything else done too.

That can go on for weeks, and soon you may find out that you’ve lost control over your whole life.

So let’s take care of that procrastination issue now.

The Problem

The problem in this case is that you’re looking at the big picture. It’s overwhelming, scary and may even seem impossible. When, in fact, it’s just a combination of many small steps, each of which will get you closer to getting this thing done.

But don’t worry. All this doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with you. It’s just your approach and attitude that need to be changed.

If we let our mind try to grasp the big picture, we often lose half the battle before we’ve even started working on the current project or task or life goal.

That kills our motivation (assuming we’ve found a way to get motivated and start taking action) and our confidence (the bigger and scarier the whole thing looks, the more we lose any belief that we can get it done).

The Solution

Let’s see what we can do about this problem so that we can start working on the task and get it done soon:

1. Don’t think about the end result.

For some people it may be encouraging to imagine the positive outcome of the situation. But others just can’t focus on the good sides. So it’s better for them to let go of how this will end and focus on the first steps instead.

2. Get realistic to understand it’s absolutely possible.

There’s nothing to fear as so many people before you have done this, no matter how difficult it may seem.

Especially when it comes to daily tasks, even you may have completed them successfully in the past. If that’s the case, remind yourself of that and how good you felt about it.

It’s a bit of a relief to know that not only are many others struggling with the same, but that there are hundreds of thousands of people who’ve done what you’re postponing right now.

And when you realize it’s possible and you have all it takes to get it done, you’ll bring hope back.

3. Break it down into manageable tasks.
