Chapter 1: Understanding Cholesterol Levels

Today, more than half of the world’s population has high cholesterol. This means that every other person you see walking down the street is at risk of developing heart disease. The average person has no idea what their cholesterol level is because high cholesterol cannot be seen. When it comes to your cholesterol, however, the statistics speak for themselves; you must understand it in order to deal with it. It is very simple to understand once you get past the code.

Total cholesterol levels, HDL, LDL, total/HDL ratio, and LDL/HDL ratio are the five different methods you can use to get a complete reading on your own cholesterol levels. These measurements are actually written down to indicate what is and is not desirable. The units of measurement for checking your cholesterol are milligrams per deciliter. When you look at these separately, it becomes extremely perplexing. If you really want to understand your cholesterol levels and what, if anything, you need to do about them or how to maintain them properly, you can talk to your doctor.

I’m going to give you the specific numbers that are involved with your cholesterol. Your overall desired level should be less than 200 mg/dL, 200 to 240 for a borderline level, and above 240 for total risk. This only applies to your overall levels. Your doctor can best explain it to you when it comes to breaking it down to each individual level.

HDL Cholesterol Definition

When you think of your cholesterol, you probably only care about how low it is, but HDL levels are not the same as total cholesterol levels. It is only a portion of your total cholesterol, but when it comes to HDL levels, you want them to be high. In no way is HDL the same as cholesterol. Your HDL levels are, in fact, high density lipoproteins. We require a large number of these. Their function in our bodies is to transport cholesterol away from the body once LDL has brought it there.

There are several approaches you can take to accomplish this. Excessive smoking, alcohol, body weight, exercise, and medications are all on the list. Let’s take a look at the numbers. It is important to remember that even minor changes in HDL levels are significant. It would be an exaggeration to say it is exponential, but a 1 mg/dL increase in HDL cholesterol levels means a 2 to 4% reduction in the risk of heart disease and cardiac problems in general.Knowing that your HDL levels must be elevated is one thing. Here are the actual figures to illustrate. If you have 37 mg/dL for men and 47 mg/dL for women, your numbers are too low. The normal range for men is 40 to 50 mg/dL, and for women it is 50 to 60 mg/dL. This is a concern because many people have these levels reversed. It helps to set a reasonable goal, such as increasing your HDL cholesterol levels by 10 mg/dL from where they are now, because most of us require more than we currently have.

Chapter 2: Your Heart Needs Low Cholesterol

Lowering cholesterol is critical, and we are all aware of this. When it comes to cholesterol, age is irrelevant because we can all have a problem. It is also true that having high cholesterol increases your chances of having a heart attack or stroke. To understand what this means and how to achieve it, we must first understand a few key concepts and terms. We’ll begin with this.

Cholesterol is essentially a fat-like substance found throughout the body. The next step is to figure out how it got there. This is simple; you get your cholesterol from your body or from the foods you eat. You should be aware, however, that too much of it is harmful to the body. When our cholesterol levels are too high, our arteries become clogged, our hearts become blocked, and our lives are threatened. Because we all love bacon and fatty foods, most of us have high cholesterol.

We have two types of cholesterol, which may be confusing at first. One of them is high density lipoprotein, also known as HDL, which needs to be high because it protects the heart from bad cholesterol. The other is low density lipoproteins, or LDL, which is sometimes referred to as “bad cholesterol” because it can clog arteries and kill us. Our bodies contain both types of cholesterol, and we require both. The balance between them is what maintains our overall health.

Cholesterol Reduction

There is a more natural way to lower cholesterol for those who prefer not to take prescription drugs. Natural cholesterol reducers, which can also be found in many whole foods, are an alternative to using drugs. The majority of us now prefer to use natural remedies such as herbs and so on. Today’s studies show that it is effective in removing symptoms or lowering your chances of developing heart disease.

Natural cholesterol reducers are substances that help to lower cholesterol without requiring people to first tamper with it. This means they were not created using chemicals or pesticides. If you’re wondering what kinds of things can be considered natural, I’ll tell you. Garlic is regarded as a natural reducer due to its inhibitory effect. Fish oils, which contain omega-3 fatty acids, have also been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease by at least 40%.

There is another factor to consider as well. For example, did you know that Cholesterol’s sister problem, beta-sitosterol, can significantly lower blood serum cholesterol with almost no changes to your diet or exercise regimen? Curcumin (an extract of the curry spice turmeric) naturally lowers cholesterol. However, golgul gum resin, derived from the myrrh tree, lowers cholesterol levels and aids in weight loss. These are just a few natural spices that you can incorporate into your diet.
