Fingering Yarn Crew Neck Sweater Pattern

 

 

Size 38

 

Materials:

 

1 Pr. Standard No. 2 Needles—14 in.

1 Pr. Standard No. 4 Needles—14 in.

 

Scale: 7 sts. to 1 in.

 

Jack Frost Fingering Fleece—9 1-oz. Balls

 

BACK: With No. 2 Needles cast on 112 sts Work in ribbing of K. 2, P. 2, for 3 in. Change to No. 4 Needles and work in stockinette st. until piece measures 12½ in. or desired length to underarm from ribbing. Bind off 3 sts. at the beginning of the next 2 rows, then decrease 1 st. at each end every other row 3 times. Work even until piece measures 8½ in. from 1st bound off sts. at underarm. Work in garter st. for 10 rows. On the next row, K. 32, bind off 36 sts. for back of neck, and on remaining 32 sts. work 1 in. in garter st., keeping the 1st 32 sts. on end of needle. K. 1 row, P. 1 row for 14 rows. In­crease 1 st. at neck edge every other row 10 times. Work other shoulder to correspond. Cast on 22 sts. for front of neck, and join to other shoulder. Work even to 1st increase of armhole. Increase 1 st. at each end every other row 5 times, then cast on 5 sts. at the beginning of the next 2 rows. Work even until piece measures same as back. Change to No. 2 Needles and work ribbing same as back. Bind off.

 

SLEEVES: With No. 4 Needles, on right side of garment, pick up 30 sts. across top of shoulder. Work back and forth in stockinette st., picking up 2 sts. at end of each row until 112 sts. have been picked up from end to end of armhole. Work 6 rows even, then decrease 1 st. at each end every 6th row to 70 sts. Work even until sleeve measures 19 in., or desired length from underarm. Change to No. 2 Needles, decreasing to 62 sts. at even intervals across the row. K. 2, P. 2, for 4 in. Bind off. Work other sleeve to correspond. Sew underarm and sleeve seams.

 

NECKBAND: With No. 2 Needles, on right side of garment, pick up 42 sts. across back of neck. K. 2, P. 2, for 8 rows. Bind off. On right side of garment, pick up 100 sts. from shoulder to shoulder, K. 2, P. 2, for 8 rows. Bind off.

 

Sew front and back neckbands at shoulders.
