Chapter 1: The final test
The light in the laboratory flickered. A monotonous beep sounded through the room, accompanied by the quiet humming of the machines. Dr Lia Novak stood in front of the reclining chair made of cold metal where she would be sitting in a few minutes.
"Ready, Dr Novak?" asked Elias Marten, her mentor and lead neuroscientist on the project.
Lia took a deep breath. There was no turning back. REM-X was her creation, a ground-breaking technology that would allow her to navigate the dreams of her own subconscious.
A tool that was to revolutionise trauma healing and memory research.
But part of her wasn't sure if she really knew what she was doing.
