Black and White Afghan & Rug Patterns

Materials Required:

AMERICAN THREAD"AUNT LYDIA'S" HEAVY RUG YARN

12—70 yd. skeins Black and

8—70 yd. skeins White for Rug

10—70 yd. skeins Black and

15—70 yd. skeins White for Afghan Aluminum Crochet Hook Size H for Afghan; Size K for Rug OR ANY SIZE HOOKS WHICH WILL RESULT IN STITCH GAUGE BELOW

GAUGE:

Afghan Motif—6¾" square

Rug Motif—8¾" square

AFGHAN

SIZE: 48 x 70 inches

Work 70 motifs 7 x 10.

MOTIF: With single strand with White ch 2, work 8 s c in 1st st of ch, do not join rounds, place a marker at beg of each round. 2nd ROUND: Working in back loop of sts only throughout, * 3 s c in next s c, 1 s c in next s c. repeat from * all around. 3rd to 8th ROUNDS: Work 1 s c in each sc working 3 sc in each corner sc ending 8th round with 1 s c in each s c to corner s c, cut yarn. Attach Black in 3rd s c before any corner st, s c in same space, ** yo, insert hook in center st 4 rows below, pull loop up to level of row being worked, work off 2 loops, * yo, insert hook in same space, pull loop up to level of row being worked, work off 2 loops, repeat from * once, then work off all loops at one time (cluster st), skip 1 sc, sc in next s c, 3 s c in corner s c, s c in next s c, work cluster st in same center st 4 rows below, skip 1 s c, 1 s c in each of the next Use, repeat from ** all around, join, cut yarn.

FINISHING: Block all motifs. Sew motifs tog through back loop of sts matching corner sts.

EDGE: With Black work 2 rounds of s c around entire afghan working through both loops of sts and 3 s c in each corner st.

RUG

SIZE: 27 x 40 inches

With double strand of each color, reverse colors working 12 motifs 3 x 4 same as afghan. Work edge same as afghan.

1—70 yd. skein each Lt. Blue, Med. Blue, Pink, Leaf Green, Natural and Yellow for Pillow
