Maria Madonera is a painteress and poetess since her adolescence. Her profound philosophic, psychological and political understanding is emphasized by the universal concept of Yin and Yang. Maria Madonera is German, but grew up in Pakistan. She has experienced the rich Pakistani culture, however, also the problematic segregation of women and men. Her ideas of female and male existence are far beyond the conventional male/female concepts of global societal structures, or simple feminism. Her focus is concentrated on the universal feminine energetic aspect of life, and especially so in the domain of art itself. The author has complemented the texts with 19 fine drawings, several graphic designs and some photos of her oil paintings, thus putting the right and left hemisphere into a perfect balance. Human and political tragedies, like the one that is still unfolding e.g. in Afghanistan (or in other parts of the world), are nowadays presented live by smartphones, I-phones, tablets, PCs, TVs. All is happening in real time. But, these kind of tragedies are living history, as they repeat themselves since ages. It’s just now that we can literally see them, watch them unfold as they are happening right now. What is happening in real time? The familiar pattern.
Masculine power has always been in warfare. Nothing new.
In pre-historic times hunters were targeting beasts for their livelihood, which was quite a dangerous affair at times. But in our precious “civilized” era humans are not only brutally hunting animals (wildlife and domesticated animals via slaughter-houses), but are hunting down humans as well.
Actually, only the weapons have changed. They have become more lethal, more “sophisticated”, more complicated to deal with, and deadlier in their result. Military Commanders don’t even need to see the enemy, they can simply just press a button.
So, in fact, fundamentally, nothing much has changed since thousands of years. Be it Alexander the “Great”, be it Genghis Khan or Bai Qi (the extremely brutal general of the Chinese Qin dynasty), the continuous expansions of the Roman Empire, or all sorts of tribes invading Central China, or Europe, or White men invading the Americas, or Africa, or African and Asian warlords, whoever. They led wars, demanded to be celebrated because they killed a lot of people (and in previous times also millions of horses) and “gained” new territories and new resources, which, by human standards, they had absolutely no right to claim and obtain. And never mind the utmost price, the extreme suffering and the loss of uncountable human lives of their own people and of others. This age-old disaster continues up to this very day, our so-called modern era.
And it happens in Afghanistan too. It happens in Iraq, in Syria, Kashmir, in the Amazon, in Yemen etc. For the moment, let’s return our focus to Afghanistan:
MOUNTAINS
Just as a reminder:
The British marched in because they thought, well, if we don’t do it, the Russians will (but this was just hypothetical at that time), and then maybe the Russians will march into India, which is a precious part of “our” British Empire.
So, it’s better we march down there.
And that is just what they did. This was the first British-Afghan war.
But, of course, this was not the first invasion or conflict in the region, as every country is a continuous mosaic of invasions and expansions, wars and religious conflicts, and with it, unspeakable human horrors and tragedies.
And what about the horses? Do people ever even think about it, how, historically, millions of these divine, beautiful, loyal, vegetarian, intelligent, sensitive creatures got wounded and died horribly in those man-made battlefields?
Do any so-called “conquerors” of any country for that matter, think that tribes, or ethnic communities would welcome an invasion? Well, of course not. And obviously, the invaders never cared.
Although the Afghans were badly equipped, they defeated the British Army of 1800-plus soldiers, in eighteen-hundred-something. What a totally unnecessary human tragedy of extreme suffering and loss of lives on all sides! Afghanistan posed no threat at all to the British Empire. On the contrary, it was the British Empire that was a threat to Afghanistan.
What a big deception spurred by masculine, political colonial Egos, wanting to go down in history as the great, powerful guys.
But the British were not the first and not the last to get into the region.
