Before the beginning of all time, there was but chaos.

Sign for YIN and YANG of the universe.

THE SPIRAL AS A PROFOUND SYMBOL

In ancient cultures it was perceived by insight that the universe is not moving in a linear sense, but that it is spiralling, and due to this perception the symbol of a spiral exists in ancient, prehistoric cultures.

Modern science has blessed us with fantastic photos of the universe and there it is visible: The galaxies are spiralling, like our water is spiralling down the tub and smoke is spiralling upwards. Energies are not moving straight upwards or straight downwards, they are spialling.

The spiral is not only a physical movement, but also a spiritual and psychological and economic motion. Whatever problems we might face, they can always be solved, but not on the very same level as the problems present themselves. The solution to a problem is usually to be found only at a higher level of awareness, which includes an economic consciousness as well, not only a spiritual or psychological one.

Well, we don’t zoom into the state of enlightenment. It is a slow process of continuous rising of the level of consciousness. In other words: spiralling upwards from darkness to light.

COSMIC ENERGY OF YIN AND YANG

EVE and ADAM

So the essence of universal powers put some order into this cluster of spiralling stellar dust, and after a lot of spiralling and spinning, the energies stabilized, things straightened up a bit, until finally YIN and YANG emerged.

Nowadays even in the West this powerful symbol of YIN and YANG, the cosmic symbol of female and male energy, is fairly well known and quite a few people are familiar with this symbol, even if its profound meaning is not completely grasped.

By the way, this perfect symbol of cosmic unity travelled all along the Silk Route and finally the unity gradually separated and only one half remained.

This separation manifested itself also visually and eventually half of the symbol of the unity of YIN and YANG is, up to this very day, depicted in carpets, woven fabrics and all kinds of handicraft.

Obviously the YANG element, masculine energy, the sun, fire, the flame, has a YIN counterpart. It is water, the essence of feminine energy per se. YIN is connected to the moon, which influences high and low tide and bio-energetic fluids. The monthly female cycle is also connected to the energy of the moon. The moon takes 27 days and 7 hours to rotate around its axis and takes exactly the same time to move around Planet Earth and, big surprise, this is the time for the return of the female cycle. So who can deny that female energy is in union with the moon?

When two parties cannot stand each other, or are in complete contradiction to each other, there is this universal saying “like fire and water”, meaning: they really are adverse and incongruous.

But hold on, we prefer to have a look at the spiritual dimension of this seemingly incongruous matter: The magic sign of the rainbow appears when fire and water unite, that is, when the sun is shining and when it is raining at the same time.

The rainbow is the symbol of the magic union of YIN and YANG and it is this magic which we should reach within ourselves: Connecting the seemingly impossible, uniting YIN and YANG within ourselves. This is our wonderful inner rainbow.

It is worth mentioning, that the small dots within the Chinese symbol of YIN or YANG signify that in each element the opposite is inherently present.

But it is not only a private and personal task, which we need to accomplish. To consolidate YIN and YANG on a higher plane, and consequently on a global level, is the real challenge to save ourselves on Planet Earth.

ENERGETIC QUALITIES OF YIN AND YANG

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL MOVEMENTS OF YIN AND YANG

The ancient meaning of YIN simply was “dark, shady, the north-side of a mountain”, whereas YANG was “sunny and the sunny top of a mountain”. We can translate this into the top of the mountain being YANG and the valley of a landscape being YIN.

The element of YANG tends to express itself in intellect and logic and in a movement of expansion. As the synonym of fire it moves upwards, in contradiction to water, the empress of YIN, on the physical plane moves downwards, symbolically to the movement of going inwards.
