TV Slippers Pattern

Materials:

LILY DOUBLE QUICK Mercerized Crochet Cotton, Art. 50: 3 skeins Dk. Brown and 1 skein Coral Pink.

100 yards of silver metallic thread.

No. 0 and 3 Steel Crochet Hooks.

4 rhinestone buttons.

SOLE: Starting at center with Brown and No. 3 hook, make a tight chain 2½ inches shorter than foot.

RND 1: 3 sc in 2d ch from hook, sc to center of chain, hdc in next 3 ch, dc to end, 7 dc in end ch, work to cor­respond on other side of chain. Do not join.

RND 2: Sc around heel increasing to keep work flat (to increase 1 st, make 2 sts in 1 st). Work sc to 1st dc, hdc in next 2 dc, dc around to opposite place, increasing around toe; hdc in next 2 dc, sc to heel end.

RND 3: Sc in each st around, increasing around heel and toe to keep work flat. Repeat Rnd 3 thru Rnd 9, or other desired size. Join and fasten off. Make 2.

HEEL LIFT: Ch 20, sk 4 ch, dc in next 15 ch, 7 dc in end ch, dc in 16 sts on other side of chain.

RND 2: Ch 3, turn, dc around with 7 incs. around end. Repeat Rnd 2.

RND 4: Ch 1, turn, sc around with 7 incs. around end. Fasten off. Make 2. Sew tog. back-to-back, thru 1 lp of each sc. Sew Lift on top of 1 Sole, thru 1 lp of sc on Sole and remaining lp on 1 side of Lift. Sew 2d Sole on top in same way. Steam and press dry thru a cloth.

BRAID: With 1 strand each Coral and silver, and No. 0 hook, ch 5, sc in 5th ch from hook. (Ch 4, turn, sc in sc) repeated. Make 6 pieces: 1st (at toe) — 3½ inches; 2d — 4 inches; 3d — 4½ inches; 4th — 4¾ inches; 5th — 4⅞ inches; 6th — 5¼ inches. For large size, increase Braids to fit over foot snugly. Sew ends of 1st piece to Sole 1¼ inches apart at toe. Sew ends of other pieces to Sole ¼ inch apart. Sew Braids tog. across cen­ter to 1 inch above Sole.

VAMP: Ch 24, sk 1 ch, sc in next 23 ch. Work in back lps. * Ch 2, turn, sc in 12 sc. Ch 1, turn, sc in 12 sc. Ch 2, turn, sc in 12 sc, hdc and 10 sc down in bal. of previous row. Ch 1, turn, 23 sc; repeat from * once; ch 2, turn, 23 sc; sc in center of end, sl st in next corner. Fasten off. Sew up across center of Braids. Sew 2 buttons on center of Vamp.

HEEL: Ch 38.

ROW 1: Sk 1 ch, sc in next 37 ch.

ROW 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in 37 sc. Repeat 3 times.

ROW 6: Decrease 1 sc in center of row (to decrease, work 2 sc off as 1 sc).

ROW 7: Decrease 1 sc at each end and in center. Repeat Row 7 twice. Fasten off. Sew starting side to Sole around heel end. Make a Braid piece to go from corner of Vamp around top of Heel to other corner of Vamp, in a tight fit. Sew in place. Make 2d Slipper in same way.

Beach Bag and Slippers Pattern

MATERIALS: J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 8 balls of Spanish Red, 4 balls each of Turquoise, Yellow, Beauty Pink and Hunter's Green … Clark's O.N.T. Plastic Crochet Hook No. 8 … 16 metal rings, 1 inch in diameter … A pair of soles … 2 yard of round elastic.

Use 4 strands throughout

GAUGE: 4 sc make 1 inch; 4 rows make 1 inch.

BAG

Starting at bottom with Red, make a chain 8 inches long. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across until piece measures 6 inches. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 1, turn. 2nd to 8th rows incl: 2 sc in first sc (1 sc increased), sc in each sc across, make 2 sc in last sc (another sc in­creased). Ch 1, turn. Work without increasing until piece measures 8 inches. Next row: Work off 2 sc as 1 sc (1 sc decreased), sc in each sc across to within last 2 sc, work off 2 sc as 1 sc (another sc decreased); dec 1 sc at beginning and ending of each row until 7 more rows are com­pleted. Break off.

SIDE PIECE … Starting at narrow edge with Pink, make a chain 8 inches long. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across until piece meas­ures 6 inches. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd row until piece measures 12 inches. Break off. Make 3 more pieces the same way, having one Turquoise, one Green and one Yellow.

GUSSET (Make 4) … Starting at narrow edge with Red, make a chain 3½ inches long. Work as for Side Piece until piece measure 2 inches. Complete as for Side Piece.   

Sew Side Pieces to wide sides of bottom. Sew Gusset strips to corners. Sew up seams. Attach Red to top and sc closely around.

HANDLE (Make 2) … Starting at narrow edge with Red, ch 11. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd row until piece measures 22 inches. Break off. Sew neatly along edges of long side, stuffing with scraps of yarn to make Handle firm. Sew Handles to Gussets, 3 inches from top. Sew metal rings around Bag evenly spaced, 3 inches from top of Bag.

CORD … Cut 36 strands of Red, each 2½ yards long. Twist these strands tightly, then double these strands and give them a twist in the opposite direction. Pass Cord through rings.
