What's In the Water?

Carl came home from softball practice and before he entered the home he took off his shoes leaving them at the back door.

“Hi, Mom!” He greeted.

“Hi, Sweetie! How was practice today?”

“Oh, it was great! I hit two home runs and Coach Riley was really proud of me today!”

Wow, that's great sweetie! Two home runs! You keep that up and we will be reading about you someday! Great job! Mommy is really proud of you! Now go wash up, dinner is almost ready.”

“Okay, Mom!” He inhaled the delectable aroma of Honey Mustard Chicken, Parslied Potatoes and noticed the Strawberry Trifle she place in the refrigerator for desert as he dashed off to wash up.

Carl was a 12-year-old boy who lived with his mother Cicely and his younger sister Carla in Miami, Florida. His mother just purchased a nice foreclosure home in one of the prominent areas of town but the home lacked some essential repair work that was evidently indiscernible.

As the water emerged from the faucet, Carl commenced to washed his hands. The water ran fine as he joined his hands together to cleanse his face. With his eyes closed he submerged into the first splash but strangely after the second cleansing the water texture left rather an oily substance all over his hands. He opened his eyes to witness that the running water had suddenly turned into black slimy sludge when anxiously he called out.

“Mom!” He yelled wiping the slime from his face.

“What is it?” His mother replied coming down the hall to the bathroom.

“Look!” He pointed.

“Oh my goodness! Are you okay sweetheart? Ewe, that's disgusting! I've never seen anything like that before! We really need to get a plumber out here! You didn’t get any of that stuff in your eyes did you?” She freaked anxiously checking him over to be certain.

“No, I’m okay mom.” He assured.

Carl bent over to turn the water on in the bathtub to try to finish his cleansing and before washing up, he checked to make sure the water was running fine.

In the kitchen, Cicely tested the water before filling a tub just to have on hand. While preoccupied with other things in the kitchen, she turned away for a few minutes not realizing that the constant flow had altered into big clumps of sludge that oozed into the tub then within minutes the stream of water from the faucet ran fine. Cicely grabbed the tub and covered it for safekeeping.

They all sat down to eat dinner and after blessing the food, Carl enlightened his Mother on the details of his softball practice, she was so pleased to see how quickly he made new friends in the neighborhood. Suddenly, a strange sound roared through pipes in the walls that swiftly silenced them as they listened. Quite glaciated in their chairs, the chilling piercing squeal was quite disturbing.

“There is nothing to be frightened of kids its just those old rusted pipes that’s all. Let’s finish eating our dinner and not worry about the sounds we hear okay?” Cicely comforted.

The next day, Cicely and Carla went to Home Depot and as they browsed in the hardware section she noticed the an array of PVC piping, fancy facets, sinks and tubs were sold. She spoke with one of the sales managers to discuss the disgusting sludge and the horrible clangor of the pipes. The manager gave her a list of possibilities that may need to be repaired that surely a plumber could handle.
