Mahogany's New Fella

I was always quiet, rather reserved and I preferred it that way because the less people you know, the lesser the drama and living in the small college town of Rolla, Missouri there consisted of a lot of gossip and drama, which I totally despised. It seems people around here get their kicks from making other peoples lives miserable. My motto is, if you didn't see it with your own eyes or hear it with your own ears then don't fabricate it with your small mind or share it with your big mouth, now that sums it up! There is only a few of associates I allowed in my circle and we all grew up in the same community. One whose name is Nikita, aka Niki, she is a sweet and kind person, she would give you the shirt off her back, if you needed it and I loved her for those qualities. Ray was a fun-loving nerd, who is a very bright scientific and computer whiz. He has the intelligence and the skill to tap into restricted databases to get all sorts of information he needs but no one knew that and we swore to keep that a secret amongst us friends. Then there is Harmony, I love her name and it surely fits her persona well. Harmony is very pretty, a peaceful person who disapprove of petty nonsense, her charisma and wonderful spirit makes her such a beautiful person. She is my bestfriend, we've been friends since the third grade and through our years of school, we've always managed to share a class or two even now in college, we both share physical science being that we are Geology majors. My name is Mahogany and that completes my circle of friends, just the four of us and we all share something in common, we all have become socially detached and nonchalant towards the trivial yet, hostile experiences we've encountered from our peers.

It's our junior year in college as time is growing near to all of us getting our degrees next year. The last couple of years were so miserably humiliating due to much nettling, chaos and confusion all because we chose to be different, but we persevered and accomplished what we set out to do by passing all of our classes. All we had was one another to count on for support when many others distant themselves from us, seeing that we wouldn't relate to all of their gossip and messy shenanigans. Surprisingly, this year was different and we were all starting to really enjoy college and needless to say, the others finally decided to except us for who we were in what we were trying to achieve, an education. Ray became involved with someone much like his caliber, she was a short, slightly stocky but had a pretty face with cute little dimples when she smiled and very bright. Her name was Cheyenne aka “Dimbles” and they became quite passionate in their association. Nikita met the acquaintance of couple of associates being that they were all journalism majors and they encouraged her to join their team in broadcasting on the school radio station and she was quite elated to be able to gain some telecasting experience. I was so happy for Harmony and Devon when they decided to rekindle their relationship. They were once so in love and dated for three years until this coquettish slut named Keke Baker and her friends dispersed lies that Devon and her were sleeping together behind Harmony's back and brawl between the two nearly developed. Harmony was very pretty and smart and decided if she wanted Devon so badly and he wanted her, then the two of them should be very happy together because she wasn't going to low her standards fighting over a man and she moved on with her life. A funny thing though, just when she and this guy Tony began to take interest in one another, Devon became quite riled and couldn't except the fact that she would soon be in the arms of another man and desperately pleaded for her forgiveness in taking him back so it's good to know they are working things out. As a friend, I am happy for all of them and admired the way time had changed our lives for the better. Things were looking up and as for me, I was proud of my accomplishments yet, I was becoming so forlorn, still there was something missing in my life, my hobbies were becoming obsolete and I needed something to fill that void. Something new that I've never experienced before. I was coming out of my protective shell and I welcomed the possibilities and being that I've never dated anyone, I plan to make myself available for the opportunities that lie ahead. I'm impelled to feel susceptible to the magic and the beauty of that thing called love.

It wasn't until our senior year, there was a big rally on campus and I was sitting alone on the campus lawn near the beautiful fountains listening to a very loquacious orator about the issues at hand when surprisingly, a distant stare caught my eye. He was quite good-looking, chiseled features, tall slightly svelt with intense dark brown eyes. For some reason, I was charmed by his playful smile so I surrendered from my shyness and smiled back. It was clearly evident that he was bored with the speaker's rhetoric as he commensed to eased through a group of students sitting around on the campus lawn. He joked when he approached me and said, “I don't think anyone is listening to him! Personally, I would prefer to hear some really good music jams wouldn't you agree?” We both smiled.

“Yea, so much for campus issues, believe me I've had my share of them but come this spring it will all be behind me.” I smiled at him.

“Ah, so you're a senior! I share that same aspiration...my name is Woody by the way and you are?” He anticipated my response.
