Increased productivity
Reduction of stress and depression
Reduction of troubling physical symptoms such as headaches and muscle tension
That's just to name a few.

Meditation Doesn't Need To Take Hours of Your Time!

While meditation can be a prolonged activity, it doesn't have to take hours of your day. Even a ten or fifteen minute session of meditation can provide some benefits of relaxation.

Many people prefer to meditate early in the morning before starting their day to help them start with a positive outlook. Others choose to meditate just before bed to help them relieve anxious thoughts and drift off to sleep peacefully.

Chapter One

What is meditation?

Meditation is the act in which a person uses techniques such as mindfulness, or concentrating their mind on a specific object, person, thought, or activity. Meditation trains attention and awareness and obtains a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state.

More about meditation

According to scholars, meditation is elusive to define since meditation practices are different for various traditions. Meditation is typical in several religious traditions. The earliest records of meditation (dhyana) are present in the ancient Hindu texts called Vedas. Meditation plays a significant role in the contemplative repertoire of Buddhism and Hinduism.

Starting from the 19th Century, Asian meditative techniques have been adopted by other cultures where they have also found application in non-spiritual contexts like health and business. Meditation may help to reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and pain.

Meditation boosts peace, perception, self-concept, and well-being.

Meditation has proven challenging to define since it covers an extensive range of different practices in various traditions. Typically, the term meditation and the term meditative practice are usually utilized imprecisely to label practices found across multiple cultures. These cultures can include almost anything believed to train the attention of mind or teach compassion or calmness.

There is no exact definition of necessary and sufficient meditation criteria that have attained universal or widespread acceptance within the modern world.

The term meditation and how it was derived

The English name meditation is derived from an Old French word, meditacioun, andalso from the Latin word, meditation coming from the Italian verb meditari, which means to think, devise, contemplate, or ponder.

In Catholicism, the application of the term meditation as part of a formal, stepwise meditation process moves back to at least the 12th Century monk, Guigo II. Before this, the Greek word Theoria was utilized for the same purpose.

Besides its historical usage, the word meditation was introduced as a translation for Eastern spiritual practices known as dhyāna in Hinduism and Buddhism. It is derived from the Sanskrit root dhyai, meaning to meditate or contemplate.

In English, the term meditation may also refer to practices from Islamic Sufism or other traditions like Jewish Kabbalah and Christian Hesychasm.
