I am writing this book is to give you the tools I so desperately needed when getting started in business. Let’s make your journey to success easier and faster. By using the nine steps in this book, you create the kind of world you want to live in through living your purpose.

Remember as you read through the exercises in these chapters to take massive action. Thought without action never creates anything tangible. Reading this book and taking action on what you learn will bring you your desired results.

These are the steps laid out in the following chapters that will lead you to success:

Conscious entrepreneurs can not only be successful financially, but can also be influencers and create waves by adding value to each customer.

One thing I wish someone would have told me as soon as I decided to become an entrepreneur: work in timed intervals. Interval training in fitness proved itself successful for a reason, and we can use this proven strategy in our business activity to increase productivity.

In this book we also go over learning to value your time. I currently list all the clients I work with on an app on my phone and record my time spent on each client even though I don’t work hourly (I get paid per project). Each client receives designated hours, and I stick to that time. I book off big chunks of time for work. It's not uncommon that some days I schedule right up until midnight but I always stick to my pre-assigned times. Dedication to your business and being an entrepreneur means sometimes you need to work long hours.

Thanks to scheduling I no longer get burnt out. I used to be like the hare in the story of ‘The Tortoise and the Hare.’ The moral of the story is the tortoise triumphs because consistency wins the race, not speed. The hare needs a nap in the middle because he exerts all his energy in the first leg of the race. Burn outs lead to a high rate of failure that could easily be avoided if you take care of yourself and create a sustainable plan of action that you will be able to maintain over time.

These two strategies I mentioned, intervals and consistency, will help you integrate the habits within this book in your life and business permanently instead of quitting after a good start. Set time aside to read this book during the day and stick to the time limit. The amount of time assigned each day is up to you though I find twenty minutes is a number that worked well for me in the past.

I’m thrilled to walk through this process with you and look forward to seeing you happy and successful. You deserve to be both.

chapter 1

Figure out your Purpose and Personal Vision

I

started my personal development journey quite beaten down. I was broke, and my only thought was my next meal. I was an addict. To break free from an abusive relationship I was about to embark on single motherhood. Playing the role of the victim allowed me to avoid taking any responsibility for my life. With no goals to drive me forward, I reacted to life instead of living it.

Now, only seven years later, I am a business consultant and social entrepreneur. I have opened and closed businesses, each one helping me grow. Soon I’ll finish my bachelor’s degree. I am also an author, a mother, a friend, an active family member and an artist. I learned to treat my body with respect by watching what I put into it and found awesome hobbies like surfing. I surround myself with inspirational people, and I continually search for mentors to help me grow. Life is good.

However I didn’t magically end up like this. For a while I stumbled around trying to figure out where to go to improve my life. Interestingly enough, I didn’t have to go anywhere.

I was where the change would happen. It was work I needed to put into myself, for myself.

My journey to become an entrepreneur, while a challenging and winding road, has been the most rewarding experience of my life. By the time you finish working through the chapters in this book, you can make the same changes I did and obtain results even faster.

Don’t go through life unhappy and unfulfilled. If you’re reading this book chances are that you feel lost wanting to find your place in this world. You want to live a life of passion and contribution instead of just going through the motions. So let’s get you started by figuring out your life’s purpose.

Once you figure out your purpose, you discover what drives you and why you do what you do in your life. Remember to take action on the information you uncover and not just think about it. Only massive action gives you the results you desire.

Do these steps for your past, present and future. This will give you a picture of what your purpose was, what it is now and how to envision it going forward. You will see similarities between the different parts of your life. Our life purpose can vary in how it expresses itself from area to area even if it is essentially the same. As we get older we hone in on our purpose with its nature becoming more concrete and distinct.

Going through this purpose searching process not only shows you that you had a purpose all along but it also gives you a clearer picture of what it is. I find that when I write something down once it gives me an understanding. However, when I write it down a few times - in different words - the subject gets absorbed into my being. That is what this process is doing. It is getting you to write your purpose down three times so you gain a level of understanding that becomes part of your consciousness.

Figuring out my purpose was my biggest challenge. I kept overthinking this step as I thought it had to be perfect. Don’t complicate your life like I did. Just answer the questions in the exercise section to find your purpose. This will only take 15 minutes at the most.

The 4 steps to find your purpose:

Act of contribution. Think of a time in your life where you contributed to someone else and it brought you joy.

Value of contribution. How did you add value to the other person by doing that?

Transformation. How did you change their life?

Your purpose. Generalize step 3 (look at the examples below)

To give you an example, let me show you how I used these steps in my life:

Past

I taught my friend how to meditate. Going through a crisis in her life she came over to my house overwhelmed, stuck and filled with fear.

I added value to her life by introducing her to a life skill that will help her center herself, bring her peace, and help her tap into her potential.

I gave her a skill set that will serve her for life.

My purpose: To teach people skills that will continue to help them for the rest of their lives.

Present

I helped my client (and dear friend) create a landing page for her business.

I enabled her to build an online social media presence to promote her creative writing mastermind group program. Deciding to put herself out there got her one step closer to her goal of helping people get past writer’s block and put pen to paper.

I assisted her in putting her work out there instead of hiding her greatness.

Purpose: To support entrepreneurs in taking decisive actions to get their best work out into the world.
