Cordet Bag Pattern

Materials:

Jack Frost Cordet—5 75-yd. Tubes

Interchangeable with Soutache or Kordette

Size 4 White Crochet Hook

Ch 67. Work 1 s c in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch st. Ch 2, turn. Row 1—Draw up a loop in first st, * skip 1 st, draw up a loop in next st, Y O, draw cordet through 3 loops on hook, ch 1, draw up a loop in same st; repeat from * across row (33 patterns), ch 2, turn. Row 2—Draw up a loop in first ch, * draw up a loop in next st, Y O, draw through all three loops on hook, ch 1, draw up a loop in same st, skip 1; repeat from * across row (each pattern must be directly over the pattern of previous row), ch 2, turn. ** Repeat Row 2 until 7 rows in all have been made, then work 5 rows of s c st for st, taking back loop only. Repeat from ** twice with 7 rows of star st. Fasten off.

GUSSET—Working over 9 center patterns on each side of piece just made, work back and forth in s c, taking back loop only, until piece is long enough to reach top of bag (this forms two side gussets). Turn gussets up to sides of bag and pin in place. Crochet gussets to sides of bag and across lower edge where folded with a row of s c (see illustration). Work 4 rows of s c across top of bag, taking back loop only. Pleat gusset to inside of bag.

HANDLE—Ch 27 in. Work 1 s c in each ch st, then sl st the top thread of s c row into the original ch st. Repeat across row. Draw twice through large holes in frame and tie ends tog.

MATERIALS: J. & P. COATS KNITCRO-SHEEN, 6 balls of Dark Yellow ... J. & P. COATS OR CLARK’S O.N.T. PEARL COTTON, Size 5, 2 balls of Black ... Bone Crochet Hook No. 6 ... ⅓ yard each of buckram and felt for lining ... 1 ½ yards of ribbon ...8 bone rings.

Use 4 threads throughout.

GAUGE: 4 sc make 1 inch; 4 rows make 1 inch.
