"AUNT" LYDIA'S" HEAVY RUG YARN, Article 235

5  skeins Lt. Yellow

1 skein Orange or

"DAWN" KNITTING WORSTED

6  ounces Amber

⅓ ounce Orange or colors of your choice

Aluminum Crochet Hook Size H

Scraps of Pink and Black Felt

1 yd. ½ inch Ribbon

Cotton for filling

 

BODY: With Lt. Yellow starting at tail, chain (ch) 2, 2 single crochet (sc) in 2nd stitch (st) from hook, ch 1 to turn all rows. 2nd ROW: 1 double loop st in each st (double loop st: insert hook in st, wind yarn twice around index finger, pick up both loops from finger and pull through st, yarn over and complete sc). Note: double loop sts will be referred to as loop sts from now on. 3rd ROW: 2 sc in each st. 4th ROW: 1 loop st in each sc. 5th ROW: 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 2 sc in last st. 6th ROW: 1 loop st in each sc. 7th ROW: 2 sc in 1st st, 1 sc in each sc to within last sc, 2 sc in last st. 8th ROW: Repeat 7th row. Repeat last row 5 times. 14th ROW: 1 sc in each sc. Repeat last row 3 times. 18th ROW: Repeat 7th row (22 sc). 19th ROW: 1 sc in each sc. 20th ROW: Repeat 7th row. 21st ROW: Repeat 19th row. 22nd and 23rd ROWS: Repeat 7th row (28 sc). Work 4 rows even. 28th ROW: Repeat 7th row (30 sc). Work 12 rows even. 41st ROW: Decrease 1 sc at beginning and end of row (to decrease: insert hook in st, pull loop through, insert hook in next st, pull through, yarn over and work off all loops at one time). Work 2 rows even. 44th ROW: Repeat 41st row. Repeat last row 7 times (12 sc), do not turn. Work a row of sc all around section working 1 sc in each row and 1 sc in each sc, cut yarn. Work another section in same manner.

 

HEAD: Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd st from hook, place a marker at beginning of each round and do not join. 2nd ROUND: 2 sc in each sc. 3rd ROUND: 1 sc in each sc. 4th ROUND: Working in sc increase 4 sts evenly spaced. 5th ROUND: 1 sc in each sc (16 sc). 6th ROUND: Repeat 4th round but in­crease 6 sts evenly spaced. 7th ROUND: Repeat 5th round. 8th ROUND: Repeat 6th round. 9th ROUND. Repeat 5th round (28 sc), ch 1, join, turn. 10th ROW: 1 sc in each of the next 14 sc, ch 1 to turn all rows. 11th ROW: Decrease 1 st at beginning and end of row. 12th ROW: 1 sc in each sc. 13th ROW: Repeat 11th row. 14th ROW: Repeat 12th row. 15th and 16th ROWS: Repeat 11th row. 17th and 18th ROWS: Repeat 12th row. 19th ROW: Working in sc increase 2 sts evenly spaced. 20th ROW: 1 sc in each sc increasing 3 sts evenly spaced. 21st ROW: 1 sc in each sc. 22nd ROW: 1 sc in each sc increasing 4 sts evenly spaced. 23rd and 24th ROWS: 1 sc in each sc, cut yarn.

 

FRONT NECK SECTION: Attach Lt. Yellow at end of last round of head, 1 sc in same space, 1 sc in each of the next 13 sc, ch 1 to turn all rows. 2nd ROW: 1 sc in each sc (14 sc). 3rd ROW: 1 sc in each of the next 4 sc, ch 6 for mouth opening, skip next 6 sc, 1 sc in each of the next 4 sc. 4th ROW: 1 sc in each sc, 1 sc in each st of ch, 1 sc in each of the next 4 sc. 5th ROW: 1 sc in each sc. 6th ROW: Decrease in 1st 2 sc, 1 sc in each of the next 10 sc, decrease in next 2 sc. 7th ROW: 1 sc in each sc. 8th ROW: Decrease in 1st 2 sc, 1 sc in each of the next 8 sc, decrease in next 2 sc. 9th ROW: Repeat last row but having 2 sts less between decreases. 10th and 11th ROWS: Repeat 7th row. 12th ROW: Repeat 9th row. 13th ROW: Repeat 7th row. 14th ROW: 1 sc in each sc increasing 2 sts evenly spaced. 15th ROW: Repeat last row increasing 3 sts evenly spaced. 16th ROW: 1 sc in each sc. 17th ROW: Repeat 14th row but increasing 5 sts evenly spaced. 18th ROW: Repeat last row (21 sc). 19th ROW: 1 sc in each sc, cut yarn.
