Introduction

Yoga's origin can be traced back to more than 5,000 years ago, but some researchers believe that yoga may be up to 10,000 years old. The word 'Yoga' first appeared in the oldest sacred texts, the Rig Veda, and is derived from the Sanskrit root "Yuj" which means to unite.

Yoga is primarily a spiritual discipline that focuses on subtle science, on achieving harmony between the mind and the body of the individual. According to the yoga scriptures, the practice of yoga leads an individual to a union of consciousness with that of universal consciousness. It eventually leads to a great harmony between the human mind and body, man and nature.

The Vedas is a series of texts comprising songs, mantras, and practices used by the Vedic priests, the Brahmans. Yoga was slowly refined and developed by the Brahman and Rishis (mystical seers) who documented their practice and belief in the Upanishads, a vast work containing more than 200 scriptures.

According to modern philosophers, anything in the world is merely a reflection of the same quantum firmament. One who experiences this oneness of life is considered being in yoga and is referred to as 'Yogi,' having achieved a condition of liberation referred to as Mukti, Nirvana, or Moksha. So the goal of yoga is self-realization, to overcome all kinds of sufferings leading to 'The State of Liberation’ (Moksha) or 'Freedom' (Kaivalya).

And yoga is not just for spiritual progress, it provides multiple health advantages as well, such as enhancing endurance, reducing depression, and improving overall wellness and fitness. It's a wonderful mind-body practice that encourages relaxation when you practice linking breathwork (Pranayama) to poses (Asanas). In addition, a recent study has also related the benefits of all types of yoga to enhanced bone density and better sleep quality.

As yoga has grown into mainstream popularity, many styles and variations have emerged in the wellness space. This centuries-old Eastern philosophy is now widely practiced and taught by people of all ages, sizes, and backgrounds.

There are 10 primary types of yoga. With so many different types, it may be a little difficult to determine which type is appropriate for you. But remember that there's no right or wrong—just that one might not be right for you at this moment.

You’ve to ask yourself what's important to you in your yoga practice: Are you searching for a sweaty, intense practice? Or are you searching for a more meditative, gentler practice that looks more appealing?

Like any sort of exercise, choose something you want to do; Bikram or Iyengar will attract you if you're a detailed person. If you're more of a free spirit, Vinyasa or Aerial yoga could be fun.

I've made a complete series on all 10 types of yoga. This is Kundalini Yoga; others are also available!

So, What is Kundalini Yoga?

Kundalini Yoga is derived from Kundalini, defined in Vedantic culture as the energy that lies dormant at the base of the spine until it is activated (by the practice of yoga) and directed upward through the chakras in the process of spiritual glory.

Until it moves, it's almost non-existent. Because of this, Kundalini is symbolized as a snake because it's so hard to see a coiled-up snake unless it moves. Likewise, you can't see this coiled-up energy unless it moves. Miraculous things will happen to you if your Kundalini is aroused. The pouring of a completely new level of energy begins, and your body and everything start to act in a completely different way.

It is believed to be the power associated with the divine feminine. Kundalini Yoga is influenced by the Shaktism and Tantra schools of Hinduism. The regular practice of Mantra, Tantra, Yantra, Yoga, or Meditation leads to the rise of Kundalini.

Kundalini Yoga has grown in popularity over the last few years. It is a synthesis of Bhakti Yoga (devotion and chanting), Raja Yoga (meditation), and Shakti Yoga (expression of power and energy). However, it may include Hatha Yoga techniques (Bandha, Pranayama, and Asana), Patanjali's Kriya Yoga (consisting of self-discipline, self-study, and devotion to God), Tantric visualization and meditation techniques, and other techniques geared towards the 'Awakening of Kundalini.'

Kundalini Yoga, often referred to as "Yoga of Awareness," is more of a mental and spiritual practice than a physical one. In this session, we sit calmly, working the core and upper body with precise, repetitive movements along with chanting, meditation, and various mudras to raise our awareness.

It is accessible to people of all ages, abilities, and skills (except young children under 14). It's a dynamic, powerful yoga to witness your soul. Trained for hundreds of years and brought by ‘Yogi Bhajan’ to the West in the late 1960s, practitioners have long turned to Kundalini Yoga for many health benefits, including lower stress levels, balanced glandular systems, reduced stress, increased lung capacity, and a stronger nervous system. It was even found to improve memory.

In this book, I will explain the science behind Kundalini Yoga, the power of Kundalini, and once awakened through Kundalini Yoga, Kundalini meditation that helps transfer the energy to the upper chakras. The guide will include kriyas, asanas, different breathing techniques, and Kundalini Meditation.

This Kundalini Yoga sequence is designed to fully awaken the spinal column, the central nervous system, and Sushumna Nadi which is the main energy channel. It’s a great practice to keep the spine flexible, cultivate radiant energy flow, and maintain youthfulness and vitality.

So if you want to awaken your Kundalini energy, develop inner guidance, increase vitality and wellbeing, and feel happier, healthier, and more energized, Kundalini Yoga is for you. The Serpentine Kundalini energy trains the body and the mind.

I have to say that you are blessed to discover the powerful Kundalini Yoga technique. Even a modest 30-minute daily practice will bring significant changes in your life. You may feel more energized, grounded, relaxed, and more alive at the same time! Your presence will become more magnetic, and you'll attract things you've had to run after previously.

You will become more aware and notice the fine points and opportunities that once escaped you. Your life challenges will not disappear, but you will tap the courage, gain the will, and cultivate the inner strength to deal with them in a whole new way. You'll realize your inner potential and wisdom.

So, are you interested in learning all about how Kundalini Yoga can benefit you? This is a comprehensive guide to take a closer look at what this yoga style can do for you and how you can master it for your overall well-being.

Covering the fundamentals of each practice in-depth and how to correct the most common errors, this Kundalini Yoga Guide has left nothing to help you attain mental, spiritual, and physical well-being.

Science Behind Kundalini Yoga

It is estimated that 2 billion people worldwide practice some form of yoga. Some are drawn to the gentle mode that Hatha Yoga provides, looking for a more perceptive way to work up a sweat. Others are drawn to yoga as part of the process of awakening, to find a deep affirmation of the mind-body-soul connection through their practice.

Kundalini energy refers to the central evolutionary force within every living being. This energy is represented in sacred art as a red or orange serpent, coiled at the base of the spine. (‘Kundal’ stands for ‘coiled’ in Sanskrit.)

This snake symbolizes the emergence of our base—sexual drive—which purifies itself as it moves upward through the 'Chakras' (energy centers in the body) until it is released into the cosmos through ‘Sahasrara Padma,’ where it unites with God’s consciousness. Some believe that this transmutation and sublimation of sexual energy into its higher octave—spiritual energy—is the origin of the alchemical myth of turning lead into gold.

Kundalini energy is described as being activated during yogic breathing when Prana and Apana merge at the 3rd chakra (Navel/Solar Plexus Chakra) at which it initially drops down to the 1st and 2nd chakras before going up the spine to higher chakras through Sushumna Nadi.

In a perfect scenario, the Kundalini energy travels up the spine through all the chakras (increasing its vibration along the way) without hindrances and nourishing the body organs around, and arriving at the Crown Chakra where it unites with the energy of the cosmos that comes from above. Of course, this doesn't happen in ordinary 3D human bodies where the chakras are clogged and the Kundalini can't move up. Things are probably a little more complex since there are 2 distinct energy circuits in parallel, the first is the Kundalini circuit that runs through the spine, and the second is the energy circuit that emerges through the sun and the cosmic energies through Crown Chakra which travels down to Root Chakra in a reverse circuit than through the chakras.

This energy is said to flow through the Ida (left), Pingala (right), and Sushumna Nadi (central)—the major channels of pranic energy in the body. A recent study showed that the mechanism may be regulated by the Vagus nerve.

The outcome simply means that Mother Earth's energy rises up the spine and ultimately merges with the sun and the cosmic energy in Crown Chakra, so our body is hopefully a mere source for Earth's energy that merges with higher spiritual forces. For this to happen, one must become ‘enlightened,’ that is, keep his/her chakras open and clear of any 3D energies that clog chakras including panic, concern, anxiety, anger, jealousy, etc. Only then will one be unified with the cosmos.

The ancient Hindu word for Earth’s energy was "Kundalini Shakti," and it was written in sacred scriptures that it was supposed to rise through the Sushumna before it merged with the God Shiva in the 6th chakra (reflecting cosmic energy).

Its aim, through the regular practice of kriyas and meditation in Sadhana, is defined as the concrete technology for humans to attain their complete capacity. In the practice of Kundalini Yoga, one can release oneself from one's Karma and understand one's Dharma (Life Purpose). It also results in an enhanced understanding and knowledge of supreme bliss within oneself.

Through the practice of Kundalini Yoga, a person can consistently merge his/her consciousness with Universal Consciousness by carefully practicing exercises and meditations in a particular sequence and combination. A person quickly becomes adept at perceiving the flow of energy inside and beyond his/her body, and deliberately directs his/her flow to activate and awaken the chakras, to heal him/her and others, and to become a co-creator with universal energies.

The Biological Significance

Kundalini Yoga has profound effects on the Central Nervous System, the heart rate, and also on blood and lymphatic flow. Some asanas work to relax, some to soothe. According to 3HO, the particular angles used in the poses works to channel blood and energy to various glands and organs, restoring equilibrium to the glandular system, and purifying the blood by flushing or elevating circulation. The impact of the continuing practice is to balance, reinforce, and tone these systems, making them more suited to the demands of daily life. The influence on our consciousness is just another facet of this soothing practice.

Most physical postures rely on navel activity, spine movement, and limited pressurization of body points and meridians. Breathing and application of bandhas (3 yogic locks) help to unlock, guide, and regulate the flow of Kundalini energy from the lower to higher chakras.

The Spiritual Significance

Practicing Kundalini Yoga is used as a tool to expand consciousness and reach a state of lightness, joy, and boundless love.

In Sanskrit, Kundalini means “coiled snake,” and it is believed that divine energy was created at the base of the spine. This serpent represents the divine feminine energy that resides within all living things, bringing about a state of bliss and harmony once awakened.

It’s the energy we are born with that connects us to our divine essence. It leads us to greater understanding of one’s soul (or True Self), life purpose, and the nature of reality itself. This gradual awakening of this Kundalini energy and the inner pursuit of self-discovery is known as 'Self-Realization' or 'Yoga.'

Those that have obtained realization are known as 'Realized Souls' or 'Dweejaha' in Sanskrit, meaning 'Twice Born.' The awakened Kundalini rises up the spinal column until it enters the limbic area of the brain from where it runs softly across the top of the head to the fontanelle bone. Once awoken, Kundalini may be sensed as a cold breeze or cold vibration (Chaitanya) coming out of the fontanelle bone. These cool vibrations can also be felt on the fingertips and palms of the hands.
