Chorale McCoy wasn’t one of those prissy conservative types, she was a 22-year-old hardcore country girl raised in Alabama. She lived with her Grandpa, her brother and six other hired hands her Grandpa employed to run the ranch. Chorale did the cooking, the cleaning and took care of her ill Grandpa who suffered from gout and a spinal disorder that paralyzed him due to a fatal back injury on the ranch. Her brother Trent was an 18-year-old young rancher who envied Chorale because of the close bond she and her Grandpa shared but he later finds out that he loved them both equally the same.

One morning Chorale served everyone breakfast and upon devouring all that they could eat, they all thanked her before leaving the table to begin working on the ranch, all except for Trent and Willie who lingered at the table. Trent disliked Willie because he had eyes for his sister. The longer Willie sat toying with his food, all the while he was inconspicuously trying to woo Chorale so Trent hung around to make sure that she didn’t engage in any kind of conversation with him. Willie couldn’t help but stare as he sat watching her stir around in the kitchen when Trent inquired, “Hey dude, you like what you’re looking at?”
“Why don’t you mind your own business, Trent?” Willie retorted.
“Hey! Hey! Now the both of you stop this nonsense! Are you finished eating Willie?” She kindly asked.
“Yes ma’am, that was sure good! Thank-you!” Handing her his plate.
“Are you finished, Trent?”
“I’ll be finished in a minute.” Trent scowled.
“Well, I guess I better be getting back to work.” Willie expressed leaving the table.
“Yeah, that sounds like a real good idea!” Trent scowled watching him go out the door.
“Old sly dog! You watch him Chorale because I think he has the hots for you.” Trent implied.
“Oh, you go on! I'm a big girl and I can take care of myself, Trent! Thank you very much!” She winced wishing he wasn't so intrusive.
Chorale fed her Grandpa and afterward Trent helped him with his bath and dressed him then sat him back in his wheelchair. His Grandpa would sit out on the large porch watching the hired hands handle the livestock and reading the newspaper most of the day.
Chorale went about her business taking care of the household chores, which she did every day that had become quite monotonous. She concluded that she never had any private time for herself so she drove the truck into town to pick up some items for the house. As she strolled down the sidewalk of the busy little town, she saw several girls of her age in pretty spring dresses with their hair all duded-up with pretty ribbons that made her feel less feminine, so she walked down to Millie’s dress shop to take a look around.
“Hi Chorale!” Mrs. Millie greeted.
“Hello, Mrs. Millie!” Chorale replied admiring the first dress she saw coming through the door.
“Oh, that’s very pretty and I’ll bet you’ll look pretty in it too! Go ahead, try it on, honey!” Mrs. Millie insisted.
After a few minutes, Chorale stepped out of the dressing room to look in the mirror.
“Well, it fits you perfectly!” Mrs. Millie complimented admiring Chorale as she modeled the dress.
“Yes! It’s very pretty and I love it! How much is it?” Chorale inquired.
“It’s fifty dollars, dear.” Mrs. Millie replied.
“Oh!” She observed.
