Gordon, Randy, and Travis have been lovers for years. When their plans for Christmas this year are scuttled by the demands of Randy's job, Travis and Gordon are left trying to make the best of things without him.

CGordon rolled his eyes as Travis sighed, yet again. His lover was being ridiculous. Yes, he missed Randy. Yes, he was disappointed that the youngest member of their loving threesome would not be there this Christmas because of problems with his research. Yes, he regretted the opportunity for the three of them to be together for the first time in over a year. He refused, however, to let Randy's absence ruin his vacation and his time with Travis. They had little enough time together, as two or as three, as it was. He wasn’t going to let anything spoil it.

They’d met in college, living in the same dorm, Gordon first, then Travis the next year, then Randy the year after that. Their shared interests in science had brought them together to begin with and from there, they’d become occasional lovers. It had taken Gordon’s graduation and subsequent departure to make them realize they didn’t want it to be occasional any more. Unfortunately, while their commitment to each other had never wavered in the intervening years, their disparate research meant they still spent far more time apart than together.

"Buck up, Trav," he chided. "You know he's in Brazil wishing he was up here with us. It's not like he wanted to miss Christmas this year."

"I know that, Gordon," Travis groused, "but that doesn't change the fact that he is missing Christmas."

"He also wouldn't want that to keep us from enjoying our time together. I've been here for almost twenty-four hours and you haven't fucked me yet," Gordon pointed out reasonably, hoping the teasing would lighten Travis's mood.

Unfortunately, it had the opposite effect. "Well, I'm sorry if I haven't been in the mood," the red-headed man snapped. "I've had a few other things on my mind."

"Well, fuck," Gordon muttered under his breath. "That went well." Levering himself out of his seat, he went after his lover, trying to figure out what to say now. A part of him resented the fact that Randy's absence could mean more to Travis than his own presence, but he reminded himself that this was a part of their relationship, that Travis's world revolved around Randy. It was fine when the three of them were together, or when Travis and Gordon met up with no expectation of Randy being there. The problem came from Travis's disappointment, which Gordon shared, but not to the same degree. His love for Randy had grown out of his love for Travis rather than the other way around.
