Beschreibung

Marcus Covington, an up and coming businessman who loved life and everything it had to offer. He had the same dream as most, to have a successful business, and a loving family to share it with. Marcus’s circle is small. If you’re in it he valued you and your loyalty.

When Covid hit everyone had to make adjustments and figure out this new way of life. So much despair came out of it that healing from it would be a long hard road. In the midst of this Marcus’s world is turned upside down. No one ever sees betrayal coming. So when the ultimate act takes place, at the most vulnerable time in his life, he didn’t know how he was going to survive. To be blindsided is hurtful, but for it to be done by those you least expect to do it is devastating.

Marcus knows the word says that vengeance is not his, it's the Lord’s, but he wants some of it. Journey through Marcus’ life as he loves, hurts, and hates. An emotional page turner of highs and lows. It will make you want to reach in and hold his heart.

Remember the comeback is always better than the setback.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

M. Margo McCrae was raised in Pittsburgh PA, before moving to Atlanta in the late 90’s. Margo worked in the Financial Industry for most of her career and raised two sons. Unexpected changes in her life and her families led her to continue her pursuit of higher education and a career change.

Instead of following regulatory rules she could utilize the creativity she always thought she had in her as a Social Director. Changing careers at a time when most people are looking forward to retirement was scary but her passion for it grew stronger and stronger. Writing never really crossed her mind outside of putting her own thoughts into some journals to remind her of her journey. This writing endeavor came about by just answering a question on Social Media and it turned into a collaboration of work to tell a story with a subject she was very familiar with.

Anyone is subjected to being blindsided.

THE GALA

At the Masonic annual Gala, everywhere you looked were beautiful people of color. It was an unseasonably warm night for September, and it was sultry outside. The gala was at a beautiful bayside mansion, and no expense was spared for the event. Alexis pulled out all the stops for tonight because she was going to be on the arm of the Fraternity man of the year! Hair, makeup, and gown were all on point. Alexis and Marcus arrived early and walked the red carpet for photos. They waved at everyone and gave fake hugs and kisses to people that they had not seen in a long time. They gave polite greetings of how have you been and we will have to get together soon BS. People can be really fake at these events, and Alexis and Marcus always enjoyed teasing them. They called them the Fufee Fufee people, the ones that pretend they are something they aren’t. After the ceremony, Marcus was beaming with pride. He was shaking hands and arranging golf course business meetings, and being his charming self. Alexis was watching her fraternity man of the year from across the room, and he looked so sexy in his tux. She made eye contact with him, and he smiled at her and made the ok sign with his tongue inside of it. Smiling back at him, she knew he was up to something, he was always up to something, and she loved that about him. There were always almost inappropriate displays of public affection, candlelit dinners, flowers, jewelry, last-minute exotic trips, anything to make her happy he did it. Marcus placed her on a pedestal, and Alexis played her part as the perfect wife. They were truly a happy couple in a crazy world. Marcus started to make his way toward his wife, but he stopped to talk to a few ladies along the way. Alexis frowned at him and lowered her gaze playfully. When she looked up again, she didn’t see him in the crowd anymore, but he was watching her, looking for him. Alexis felt someone press themself up against her from behind. Marcus had made his way across the room and wrapped his arm around her neck, and whispered in her ear, “Do you have a place where I can hide this concealed weapon?”

Alexis smiled at her husband's shenanigans. This was the beginning of the chase, and the chase was exciting. Marcus was a prankster. He was funny, down-to-earth, loving, sincere, and a provider. If Marcus was your friend, he was your friend for life. Before Alexis could answer him, he quickly backed away from her and went down a long hallway. Alexis tried to follow him, but he dipped on her. At the end of the hall, she heard a door open, so she peeped inside, checking to make sure no one saw her go in. The room was dimly lit, beautifully decorated in all white, and smelled like hydrangeas. Marcus was standing behind the door, and when he stepped out, he startled her a little bit. “Marcus are we going to get in trouble for being here?” “No, we're not. I know the guy who owns the place, and he says it’s cool.” Alexis laughed at him as he began to caress her body with just his fingertips. When he brushed across her nipples, she shivered, and he could feel how hard they were under her green silk dress. She wanted to ask him what he was up to, but she knew he wasn't going to answer her. Marcus wanted her to relinquish control to him so that she was relaxed and could enjoy the rendezvous. Alexis was willing to do that, but she was nervous about getting caught. Standing in front of her, he slid his hands under her dress and pulled her close to him by her hips. Alexis knew right then that her decision not to wear panties was the right one. Gently kissing her neck, he slid the straps of her dress down her arms. He admired her as she stood there with hard nipples and glistening in the dim light. He softly kissed her lips and shifted the dress down until it puddled on the floor. Alexis felt like there was no one else in the world but the two of them; even though there were 100’s of guests right down the hall, all she could think about was what he would do next. Marcus asked her to sit on the couch while he sat on the table in front of her, still fully dressed. He handed her his silk pocket square that matched her dress. When she asked what it was for, he said, “You will know when you need it, now, please lay back.” He looked into her eyes and started to kiss and caress her again. Her desire for him was warm. Alexis always placed her trust in him, but she never knew where his imagination was going to take her. He grins at her, squirming, and watches as she closes her eyes and lets every thought leave her mind. The fragrance in the room relaxed her, and it seemed like time stood still as she anticipated pleasure. So when she felt a little bit of pain, she flinched, and Marcus placed his hand on her thigh to let her know it was alright. He had bitten her nipple and was licking it ever so sensually as if to let her know that he may hurt her, but he would make it feel better. Now he was sitting beside her, pressing his lips against hers and sucking her tongue. He parted her thighs with his hand and easily slid his fingers past the cream coming from inside her and fingered. He leaned into her body with his, and she started to breathe heavily. Marcus was wearing her favorite cologne, Eternity, and Alexis was seduced by his scent. The rhythmic motion and pressure of his fingers inside her as his thumb rubbed her clit was overwhelming her. Alexis positioned his hand exactly where she wanted it to enhance the feeling. He rolled his eyes at her playfully because she always tried to be in control, and being this submissive drove her crazy. Feeling her body tensing up, he watched the rise and fall of her chest and listened to her breathing. He knew the climax was approaching, and he loved to see her like this. Marcus moved from in front of her to beside her and laid her down on the couch, but he never stopped the slow thrust of his fingers. The next thing she felt was his tongue sucking her clit with his fingers inside of her. This was going to happen. He was going to make her explode on this couch that probably cost thousands of dollars in this beautiful mansion. It was the intensity of the door not being locked and the way he had taken control of her mind and body that made this moment so sexy. Alexis was seconds away from cumming when he stopped touching her, and she felt his lips on hers. Her eyes were still closed when she then felt all of him inside her. She gasped loudly with each stroke that he gave her, and it felt amazing. Marcus pulled her closer and continued his deep thrusts. All he ever wanted to do was please her.

THE CONNECTION

Marcus woke up and did his normal routine. A little old-school hip hop always got him pumped up. Driving to work, he stopped at his favorite mom-and-pop spot for breakfast. When he walks in, a woman is walking out, and they almost collide. Marcus backed up to say excuse me, and he held the door so she could walk out. Smiling at him, she said thank you, and he turned around slowly and watched her walk away. Before she got in the car she looked at him and said, “Take a picture; it’ll last longer” then she smiled again, got in her car, and drove off. Marcus walked inside the restaurant and asked, “Do you know who that was who just left?” The cashier said, “I don’t, but I know she’s not Elena.... you know your girlfriend Elena...” There was a long pause before he said. “Oh yeah, Elena” He started laughing as he paid, then he left. He arrived at his shop and prepared to get his day started. There were always lots of laughs in the shop, and you never knew what was gonna happen there.

A few days go by, and the shop is extremely busy. The receptionist is taking breakfast orders, and Marcus calls Elena to ask her if she would go and pick up the order because everyone is busy. Elena tells him she doesn't feel like getting out of her bed and hangs up. Roxanne, the shop manager, said she would handle it and picked up the phone. After some chatter, she said, “thank you,” and hung up. “Hey Marcus, my aunt will pick up the food and bring it here.” Marcus said “cool” and finished sketching. About 35-minutes passed when the door opened, and Roxanne yelled out: “Yessssss, the food is here everybody!” Marcus turned around in amazement, “It’s her.” he said softly. Rox and the mystery woman talk and laugh for a little bit and then she said: “I’ll see you later” Headed towards the door, she looked at Marcus and said: “hey, you want another picture?” and struck a pose. Rox looked confused and asked her Aunt who she was talking to. “The photographer over there,” as she laughed and was gone for the second time.

When it was time to close the shop, Rox went to lock the front door. When she turned around, she was startled because Marcus was standing right behind her with a devilish look on his face, rubbing his hands together, and said, “So....what’s your Aunt's name?” Rox said, “Alexis,” but before Marcus could say anything else, she blurted out: “NO!!! I’m not introducing you to her.” “I wasn’t gonna ask you to.” “Good!” she replied, and she went to finish shutting down the shop. He followed her and said: “what’s her situation?” Rox looks at him sternly and says, “she’s in a relationship like you are.” so he nods and says ok. He never mentioned her again.

3 years later

It’s the Fourth of July, and the Jokers Wild Motorcycle Club is riding in the annual parade. Marcus spent the morning shining up his motorcycle until every inch of it glistened in the sun. He backed up and took a look at it and was pleased with his work. He jumped on the bike and was out to enjoy the city’s views. Making it to the meetup spot just in time for the parade, he felt his phone vibrate. It was a missed call from Rox, so he called her back. When Rox answered, she asked him if he was going to be at the parade, and he said yes. “Ok, I'll be there, and so will my aunt” Marcus smiled and said, “Word?” Rox laughed and said, “Word to Big Bird, we’ll see you there.” Marcus does his rounds of meet-and-greets because he knows damn near everyone. He is one of those people that if he makes friends with you, y’all are friends for life. After a lot of daps and hugs, it’s time to line up for the parade. Marcus was riding down the street slowly and purposely so that he could see Rox and the mystery woman. It had been three years since the last time he saw her. There were only two more blocks of the parade left, and he hadn’t seen them yet. When he gets to the last block, he hears “MARCUS!!”

He turns to see who's calling him, and there’s Rox waving at him, and to her left is the mystery woman. He could hardly wait to get to the end of the parade route, and he immediately took a quick left to get back to the main drag where Rox and her Aunt were standing. They were walking towards him as he parked his bike, and he could feel himself getting excited. Rox greeted him with a hug and introduced them, “This is my Aunt Alexis.” Marcus extended his hand, as did Alexis. It felt like she was looking directly into his soul, and in a Caribbean accent, she said, “Pleasure to meet you; I’ve heard so much about you.” While continuing to hold her hand, Marcus says, “hello, Mystery, the pleasure is all mine.” He gave Rox a look and said, “Well, I’ve heard absolutely nothing about you.” and they all laughed. Alexis looked puzzled. “Mystery?” Marcus replied, “Yes, because that’s what you’ve been to me ever since the day I first saw you. Alexis smiled, and Marcus asked if she had any plans for the rest of the day, she told him they were going back to the house to throw some food on the grill. Marcus said, “Cool” and Alexis said, “You should come through later,” and he replied, “I’ll do that.” Kind of blushing, Alexis says, “Can I ask you a question?” “Sure”! Marcus answers. Smiling with a glow that makes his heart beat fast, she says, “Can I have my hand back?” “For now, you can.” he says, and Alexis says, “See you later, handsome,” and they walk away. Watching her walk away, Marcus couldn’t help but notice the Yams on her. He thought to himself, if she looks back, she’s interested. Still in stride, yams and all, she turns her head to look at him and smiles. Marcus just nods his head in agreement to hide how he was feeling. He had to keep his cool demeanor.

All of the parade participants went to the city hall for an appreciation celebration. This was just what Marcus needed, more time to rub elbows with the big wigs and a chance to promote the new location and grand opening of his businesses. Getting to see old friends made the day worthwhile, and it was only going to get better. Marcus reaches for his phone to send a message when it starts ringing. Rox was calling, and as he was saying “Hello,” all he heard was someone in the background saying, “…if he didn’t want to come, that’s all he had to say.” Marcus says hello again, and Rox responds with, “I thought you were coming over?” Laughing, he says, “That’s kind of hard to do without an address.” Rox starts laughing and tells Alexis that she never gave him her address. He could hear the embarrassment in Alexis’s voice in the background when she said, “Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry!” Rox gives him the address, and Marcus says, “Ok, I’ll be there shortly.” Forty-five minutes later, Rox was on the phone again, telling Marcus that someone said if you’re not here in the next thirty minutes, don’t bother coming. Marcus hung up with the quickness. He was not missing this opportunity to get to know the woman who was no longer a mystery. Making his way to his bike, his brother Brian runs up behind him, asking where’s he going. Marcus answers: “Bro, no time to talk, I gotta go,” and takes off. At a red light a few blocks down the road, Brian pulls up on his bike next to him. Marcus hollers “Where the hell are you going?” Brian responds with, “Where ever the fuck you’re going.” “Damn you’re nosy!” Marcus barks, and with a devilish grin, they both hit the throttle when the light turns green. They were moving so fast that one of Marcus’s friends, who’s a police officer, walked out and flagged them to slow down. Luckily for them, she was a rider, too, and didn’t give them a ticket.

Their bikes could be heard coming down the block, so Rox and Alexis walked down to meet them at the end of the driveway. Marcus takes his helmet off and is smiling ear to ear, and it matches the same one Alexis has on her face. He turns the bike off, and Alexis says in her Guyanese accent, “Oh, so I had to threaten you to get you here, huh?” Marcus quickly replies, “Nooooooo, I just lost track of time.” Brian and Rox hugged, and she introduces Brian to Alexis. Nice to meet you, they both say at the same time. They all walked to the back of the house, where there was definitely a party. This was more than just some food on the grill. People are dancing, eating, drinking, and playing cards. Rox does the: “Hey everybody this is Marcus and Brian” introduction, and they yell back, “Hey”! Rox points in the direction of the food and says, “Help yourself to everything and If you don’t see it, just ask.” Of course, Marcus knew some people there, so he started mingling with Brian closely behind him. Brian was lost. He didn’t understand a word they were saying. Both of them were kind of shocked because they had no idea Rox was Guyanese. In the shop, she spoke without an accent, but here she was in her element. After a little bit of time had passed, Alexis walked up and asked if they were hungry, and they both said yes, so they went over to the tables with pans and pans of food. Brian is a chef, so this is a treat for him since he never really had authentic Caribbean food before. Brian is tearing up some Roti, and he hollers over to Rox and says, “Hey Rox, please bring him some more of this Rati stuff. Everyone cracked up at him, calling it Rati! Marcus is enjoying himself, but he does more looking for Alexis than eating, and she’s nowhere to be found. Then much to his surprise, she pops up with a drink for him and his brother. Marcus takes his drink and asks her with a serious face, “If I drink this will you take advantage of me?” After a brief pause, Alexis says, “No, I would wait till you had three, but since you’re on a motorcycle, you can’t! Smiling at her, he says, “Well, I don’t want it then.” They both laugh as she walks away, and he sips the drink that’s really good. Alexis is the ultimate host, constantly making sure everyone is ok and that there’s plenty to eat and drink. The Soca music was nice and loud! It wasn’t something Marcus was familiar with, but he could get used to it. Alexis walks over to Marcus and says, “Come!” So, he gets up and walks with her to where everyone is dancing, and they both join in. The way she swayed her hips was hypnotizing. When he polished up his bike that morning, he had no clue he would be enjoying himself like he was. In the middle of dancing, Alexis looks at him and says she’ll be right back. He thinks to himself that the next time she passes by, he has to get her undivided attention. He hasn't really gotten a chance to talk to her. The hostess with the mostess was off making sure that everyone was ok. Other ladies at the party begin to come and dance with Marcus. When Alexis came back, he stopped her and asked her to come here. She walks over, and he tells her he’d like to spend some time with her and talk. Alexis asked him to give her a minute, but he didn’t want her to get away again. As she was leaving, he reached for her hand, but he grabbed her phone instead, and she mouthed I will be right back and left the phone with him. He was starting to wonder if she was really feeling him like he was feeling her. Realizing he has her phone, he hears Brian saying to open it and read her messages to see if she’s talking to someone else. He looks at Brian and says, “Really?” Instead, Marcus opens her phone and dials his number. Now he has Alexis’s phone number. When she returns, he hands her the phone, and she says, “Oh, thank you. I forgot you had it.” A little while later, Marcus decides to have a little fun and prank calls Alexis. When she answers, he doesn’t say anything, and after the fourth call, she gets annoyed. Alexis gets a free second, so she walks over to Marcus so she can whisper something in his ear, but instead, she sees her phone number on his screen as he is calling her again and yells, “It’s you calling me” and she tries to snatch his phone but he takes off running, and she chases him around the yard laughing. He stops to let her catch him, and she says, “You’re horrible. I’ll deal with you later.” The sun had set a long time ago, and most of the guests were either leaving or cleaning up to put the yard back in the condition it was in before the day’s festivities. Before Marcus knew it, everyone had packed to-go plates, and he missed out. “Damn, I wanted some of that Mac & Cheese!” he blurted out. It reminded him of his Mother’s. Marcus & Brian grabbed some trash bags and started cleaning up, moving tables, and chairs, and helped the DJ pack and load his equipment on his truck. That’s just how they were raised, and no one had to ask them to help. It was just second nature to them. Those that remained gathered on the porch, still drinking and laughing at each other, waiting for the fireworks to start. When Alexis finally appeared, she apologized for taking so long. Marcus said it was cool because everyone made him feel welcomed, and then the sky lit up with sparks, and he put his arms around her waist and snuggled his chin in her hair. It was almost 2 am when Marcus said he was about to go because he had about an hour's ride ahead of him. Alexis said ok, wait a minute, and she went inside the house. She returned with a bag that she had packed for him. He was shocked. All he could do was say, “Wow, thank you, thank you very much!” You’re welcome!” she replied, “Let me walk you to your bike.” Marcus put the bag in his trunk and asked her if she was scared of motorcycles? She said “No.” Will you take me for a ride one day?” Definitely, he said, imagining her on his bike pressed up with her arms wrapped around him. He snaps out of his daydream when she asks if can he talk on the phone while riding? Marcus nods yes, and Alexis says, “Ok, I‘ll call you in a few minutes. Marcus said ok, then yelled, “Yo, B, I’m out!” Brian said, “I’m gonna stay a little while longer.” Marcus throws up the deuces, hugs Alexis, and pulls off. About 20 minutes later, Marcus’s music was interrupted because his phone was ringing. “Hello, Missy” and she laughed and said, “Missy?” “Is that short for mystery? Because I’m not a mystery anymore, well, maybe a little.” They both laughed, and Marcus said, “So can we unravel the mystery of Alexis?” They talked until he reached his house and kept talking. Alexis told Marcus about her childhood growing up in Guyana and how she ended up in the States. She was working full-time for a law firm and going to school to become a lawyer. Alexis had two dreams. One of them was to do family law so that she could help families in difficult times. The other one was to own her own restaurant, where she could share the foods of her island and bring people together. Marcus listened intently and asked her why she didn't just open the restaurant first. “My parents worked hard for us to come to the States and to raise us, and I feel like I owe them more than just that.” “But if your dream is to own a restaurant, isn’t what makes you happy what's important?” Marcus asked. “Yes that’s true, but if I have to fulfill my parent's dream first, I will do that and then work on my dream. I have time for both.” Marcus began to tell Alexis that attending school and working in corporate America didn’t make him happy. He tried it for a few years but decided to pursue his passion as a designer. He was able to intern under a mentor, and with the help of his family, he was able to open a tailoring design studio. “So, what’s your dream?” Alexis asked. I don't know if I ever gave having a dream much thought because I think I’m doing it. I just know I want to be financially stable, have my name in lights with a beautiful wife and lots of kids.” “Lots of kids?” Alexis said in a high-pitched voice. “How many is a lot?” “I don’t know just yet, maybe 10.” The phone was silent for a minute, so Marcus cleared his throat and said, “Hmmm, hello, is anyone there?” “You have got to be crazy saying ten kids. We better be rich because someone will have to help me raise ten kids.” Marcus started laughing hysterically, and Alexis asked him what was so funny. “You are what’s funny! You were ok with having ten kids as long as we are rich and someone can help you.” Ain't nobody got time for ten kids, so let’s meet in the middle, and I promise I will be there to help.” “So if the middle is five, I need to hurry up with school so that we can get started. All of a sudden, I feel old.” “Five it is then Missy!” He grinned at the thought of him having a life with the mystery woman. Their conversation flowed so smoothly that before they knew it, three hours had passed. Alexis noticed Marcus was quiet for a few minutes. She didn’t want to wake him, so she whispered. “Goodnight, Handsome Man.”

LET’S RIDE

Marcus was still sleeping when his phone rang that same morning. He managed to open one eye to see it was 8:30 and say “Good Morning,” trying not to sound sleepy or too excited. “Good Morning,” she replied. The sound of her voice felt like sunshine after days of cloudiness (he now knew the meaning of that verse famous by the Temptations). “I was wondering if you were busy today?” Marcus quickly said, “I didn’t have anything planned for today. What did you have in mind?” I need to go to Maryland today, and I was hoping you would ride with me.” Marcus responded, “I’d love to! Alexis said, “ok can you be at my place in an hour?” Marcus answered, “Listen, I’m only a few minutes from the turnpike. Why don’t you just come to my house.” “Plus, I can make you breakfast if you haven’t eaten already.” Aww that’s nice of you. I actually haven’t eaten, so text me your address, and I will see you in an hour. Marcus jumped outta bed, realizing he didn’t have much time before she would be there, and his anticipation of seeing her again was going to make 59 minutes fly by quickly. He looked in the mirror after brushing his teeth, and he could see happiness. On the way to the kitchen, he thought to himself, he didn't even know what she liked to eat. What could he make her in 42 minutes to show off his culinary skills? He decided to make her a Marcus special. You can’t go wrong with scrambled eggs, sausage, and home fries. When he finished, he sent her a text. “Breakfast is ready....I’m jumping in the shower, and the door is unlocked, so make yourself at home.” Only 9 minutes were left til he was going to see Missy!

Alexis arrived at Marcus’s house and slowly opened the door. The smell of hash browns and sausage made her stomach growl. She wanted to fix a plate, but she thought it would be rude not to wait for him, so she did as he asked and made herself comfortable. Still tired from last night, she allowed her eyes to close for a minute, and just as she did, she heard the water from the shower stop. Alexis sat up straight when Marcus appeared in the living room, wrapped in a towel, still wet. Trying to look at him indirectly, she admired his physique. He smiled at her and asked if she was ready to eat, and for some reason, that felt like a loaded question, so she smiled back. Marcus couldn’t help but gaze at Alexis, who was wearing an orange sundress and was more beautiful than he had remembered from the day before. He hadn’t gotten a chance to really look at her and her exoticness when she was running around at the cookout. Marcus went to get dressed, and they got on the road right after breakfast. Alexis told Marcus that she needed to go to Maryland, it wasn’t so much that she needed to go, but she wanted to. A trip just to clear her head in different surroundings, with different people, so she asked Marcus to go. On the ride up, they played music and laughed about her telling him to take a picture on that very first encounter. Neither of them pictured they would be where they are at this point, and they didn’t want the day to end. They walked around the crowded harbor and had crabs and drinks for dinner. It felt like they had known each other for years, and they decided to stay the night in the city. A view of the Harbor at night is breathtaking, but the only view Marcus needed was Alexis. They were both tired when they got to the room.

Alexis went into the bathroom, and Marcus laid down on the bed. He figured there were two queens that she would sleep in the other bed. When she came out of the bathroom, she climbed on the bed with Marcus and sat Indian style. “I really needed this day,” she said, and Marcus agreed. Tell me about yourself, she said quietly, and he responded that there wasn’t much to know. “I love my parents, even though I gave them a hard time growing up. I like my onions chopped up small, I don’t like tomatoes, and you know I want five kids. Other than that, I want to love somebody forever. They continued to share their likes and dislikes until they fell asleep. Alexis woke up first in the same position as they fell asleep. Spooning with him felt so natural, and he was the perfect gentleman. When she moved some to see if he was awake, he squeezed her tight and said “Good morning Missy.” She laughed and said “Good morning sir, how’d you sleep?” “Peacefully,” he said.

90 DAYS

The first Sunday in October of 2003 was the 5th. The sun rose at 7:03 a.m, the high for the day was going to be 59, and even with a few hints of rain, it was still the perfect day to celebrate an anniversary. Three months had passed since Alexis and Marcus took that ride to Maryland, and they were basically inseparable after that. Since Marcus knew dates were important to Alex, he had planned an evening he hoped she would never forget. If there was such a thing as perfection, he was aiming for it that night. Dinner, a gift, a suite at a swanky hotel, and the woman he knew he was going to fall in love with from the day he saw her at the diner. That night he hoped they would make love for the first time. Marcus had bought Alexis a gorgeous orange silky nightgown, the same color as the sundress she wore on their first date.

The box was lying on the bed and exquisitely covered in chocolate brown wrapping paper and an orange bow. The word Missy was embossed in gold letters on the card. Alexis shrieked when she saw it. Marcus laughed when she asked him if it was hers. Who else had he been calling Missy for the past three months? Carefully opening the box, Alexis was so excited to see her gift. Pulling it out ever so slowly, she shimmied it in front of her and spun around twice. With her back turned to Marcus, she flipped her head around just enough to see him out of the corner of her eye, “Somebody must think they are getting some!!!” and she rolled with laughter. He replied quickly, “Somebody sure does!!!” He loved to hear her laugh, and they made each other laugh and happy. He begins to kiss her forehead, her lips, and her neck. All of this felt very natural; they had gone further than this on more than one occasion. They were learning how to love each other so that when this day came, it would be perfect. They had plenty of talks about what each of them wanted and needed, about what they did and didn’t like, and what they had never tried. They were very comfortable together, and all of the mysteries would soon be discovered. Alexis stops Marcus when he gets to her chest, “Stop that, I’m not letting this beautiful negligee go to waste. You're gonna see me in it.” Marcus showered first, and Alexis had to work really hard not to join him. They kissed as they passed each other in the bathroom doorway so Alexis could shower. “I won’t be long!” She whispered. Marcus said, I sure hope not. He wasn’t nervous, but the anticipation for this day was literally swelling up inside him. To be as close to her as he could possibly get was to be inside her. They waited this long because he was serious about her, and he wanted it to be when she was ready and for it to be special. Marcus started to set the mood in the room; this would keep him busy while he waited for Missy to join him. Candles were lit, the fruit was sweet, the room smelled of Polo cologne, and last but not least, music. The music had to be just right, so he had made three mixtapes to get them through the night. He thought that maybe they would’ve started dancing when they got back to the hotel. He could watch her dirty wine to Like Glue, Not Letting Go, or Vitamin S. He loved to dance with her. He had slow jams, and a few old-school R&B playlists ready. The kind that included If this world were mine by Luther. Marcus was sitting in the chair when she appeared in the doorway. Alexis had skin the color of cream, her hair brushed her shoulders, and she smelled like he imagined heaven would. Taking notice of the room, she put her hand over her heart and smiled. Purposely sauntering then twirling so he could admire how beautiful she looked and felt in her gift. Marcus looked at her as if she was the prettiest human being he had ever seen. He stood up to meet her and told her that she had missed something in the box in all her excitement. He turned Alexis around and asked her to lift her hair, then slipped a diamond pendant around her neck. The pendant was the letter “M” for Missy. The thought of her wearing something that reminded her of him every day was pleasing. Alexis blushed as she whispered thank you. She was in awe of the necklace that was so thoughtful and beautiful. Marcus said, “I’m glad you like it. I wanted you to have something as gorgeous as you are.” They began to dance. She was like butter. Her fluid movements melted until they became one pair of arms and legs. They kept the beat like they only had one set of feet between them. They danced a little while longer, then Alexis walked Marcus over to the bed. He didn’t notice she slipped a box into the room without him knowing and placed it near the nightstand. Not really expecting a gift, he was pleasantly surprised. The box was wrapped in silver paper that had a blue stripe through it. He held the box up and shook it. “It doesn't sound like a key? I can’t hear any ticking, so it can’t be a bomb. Maybe I should shake it again??” Alexis nudged him to quit playing and open the box; inside were a pair of Dallas Cowboy football tickets for December 14th in DC against the Washington Redskins! His eyes lit up like he had won the Price is Right! “Thank you, Missy. DAMN, these are great!!” kissing her and repeating his chant over and over again. Marcus calmed down from his excitement and poured them both a glass of champagne and made a toast. “To us, please let the next seven days, seven weeks, seven months, seven years, and seven lifetimes be as great as this.”

They hugged and kissed. He again kissed her forehead, lips, and neck. Alexis didn’t stop him this time. She wanted him to kiss every part of her body that would arouse her, and then she’d do the same for him. Marcus lay on the bed and reached for her hand. Alexis lay on the bed with her back to Marcus, and he loved how she smelled. It was soft, alluring; he was in a trance thinking about their first experience. As he kissed her shoulders, she began to squirm and turned over on her back. Looking into Marcus’s eyes, she told him she was ready. “Now, where was I?” he asked. She turned her head and pointed at her neck, saying, “Right here.” Marcus smiled, then kissed her lips, sucked on her pretty nipples, kissed her stomach, nibbled on her hips, gentle pecks on her inner thighs, then he tasted her excitement for him. She was anticipating this night, and so far, he had not disappointed her. She couldn’t keep still. Every stroke of his tongue, every kiss brought her closer to climax. She whispered his name, and he lifted his head. Motioning for him to come here, he said no and slid Alexis closer to him; the silk of her nightgown made it easy. Alexis told him that she needed him inside her, and he was ready to give her anything she wanted physically, mentally, and emotionally. Marcus was so hard that he made sure to be gentle when he entered her. Putting her arms around his neck, she brought him closer. Both of their bodies were pulsating as they went to a place where time didn’t matter. Marcus had only imagined how good it was going to feel to be with her. The way her body contracted against his manhood as he penetrated her as deeply as he could go was driving him crazy! It was beautiful, sexy, and even though he wasn’t sure of how long they had been making love, he didn’t want it to end. He pulled out to catch his breath to delay his climax. He laid on his back and put his arm under Alexis to pull her on top of him. Laying her head on his chest, she maneuvered herself so that he was back inside her. She raised herself up, letting him know she felt safe now in the dominant position. Alexis got playful with Marcus and asked him if he liked it. His face told her all she needed to know, and she began to ride him. Feeling him inside her in this position, she was even more pleased with his manhood. The stride she was on made her wonder if her legs would give out. At that point, Marcus took over and put his hands on her waist and began to thrust his body into hers. This made Alexis begin to contract more, and he knew she was about to cum. The next stroke took her there, and Marcus could feel her body tense up while she moaned loudly, her legs quivered, and her warm juices oozed out. He began to thrust faster as she moaned louder with each movement. Her breast jumping and the way she squeezed his arms was exciting. She looked so beautiful in that moment of ecstasy. She continued to have orgasm after orgasm. Sensing his climax as he hardened inside her, Alexis smiled and said give me what’s mine. With that smile, he released all he had built up, waiting for this moment for the last ninety days. She moaned and said, “Yes, you feel so good.” He gasped at the pleasure he had just experienced. They both collapsed onto the bed and slept in each other’s arms, listening to synchronized heartbeats. Everything was going great, and it could only get better from here. They had lots of things in common, and the things they didn’t have in common, they were willing to try out just to share in the experiences.

Alexis had just gotten out of the shower when Marcus called to ask if she wanted to go to dinner. Wishing he had called just a little bit earlier; she told him that she had already made plans to go out with Rox. To spend time with Marcus, Alexis would have canceled her plans in a heartbeat, but she hadn’t hung out with Rox in forever. That’s what love does to you. The thing that matters most is the two of you spending time together, so family and friends get pushed to the back burner. Still wanting to keep her plans with Rox, Alexis suggests Marcus and Brian meet up with them. Marcus called Brian to see if he was down, and that night was their first time at this Caribbean club. Loud and sultry was the best way to describe it. Dancing, drinking, eating, everyone having a good time in different dialects that sounded so cool! When the brothers made their way past the bar, they found the ladies. Rox knew the owner of the club and was always guaranteed a seat in the V.I.P. section. The ladies had already ordered drinks and food, and now it was time to get busy. They walked over to the other part of the club, and they danced to soca, reggae, and dancehall all night long. Marcus and Brian’s family on their father's side are Jamaican, so they had lots of Caribbean traditions, but his family was very laid back compared to Alexis’ family. They knew what it meant to celebrate and enjoy life.

NOTHING TO BE AFRAID OF

Enjoying life together began to be the goal for Marcus and Alexis. They were spending almost every weekend together, and this weekend, Alexis wanted to take Marcus to a restaurant she loved in NY. When she pulled up in the driveway to pick him up, she could hear his old-school hip-hop music blasting. Alexis liked some hip hop songs, but because she didn't come to the States till she was a teen, she wasn’t familiar with all the songs. Opening the garage door with the opener he had given her to let herself in, she saw Marcus dancing like he was in the Big Daddy Kane video. Alexis just laughed at him, and they greeted each other with a big kiss and jumped in the car. They headed out for a day trip to Brooklyn, and even though it was cold out, they had the sunroof open and the music loud on this sunny day. They pulled up in front of the Sun Rasta Restaurant, and Alexis was excited, all smiles as she motioned for him to come. Marcus looks over the menu and is undecided. Alexis takes his menu and tells the waiter, “I will have the puri roll appetizers, the duck & chicken curry combo with fried rice, salad, pholourie & black pudding with extra sour.” Marcus just looked at her when she said, “For him, he wants the fried shark with rice, cabbage, plantains, and chicken curry roti, with two Jamba Juices.” “Damn she’s greedy,” Marcus thought to himself. He thought they were gonna share the first order. When the food came, Marcus could tell Alexis was a different person when she was comfortable in her own element. She talked a lot about the future but usually not about her past. Although his mouth was on fire from the spicy food, he was listening to her intently and open to doing anything that made her happy.

After a big glass of water, Marcus asked her if she had ever been to Times Square. “No,” she replied with a glisten in her eye, and after a short pause, she said, “let’s go!!!!!”

Parking was always a beast in Manhattan, so Marcus was shocked when he found one on the street a few blocks away from the square.

When he came to open the car door for his queen, he said, “This way Milady”! She asked, “What are we gonna do?" and he replied, “Absolutely nothing.” Walking through Times Square and taking in all the sights is what it was all about. From street performers dancing and playing instruments to artists drawing caricatures (which they did), and the shopping was the best! There was every store that Alexis could think of! Macy’s, Saks, and the biggest Vikki Secrets she had ever seen. Taking his hand, she says, “Come,” and they walk over to the body lotion display. Alexis tells Marcus to pick out something he would like to smell on her while she goes to look for an item. After he had been standing there for a few minutes, a sales rep asked him if he needed help, and he replied: “As a matter of fact, I do.” The sales rep smiled at him and pointed at the green one, and said, “This is Pear Glace, and the purple one is Love Spell. This one is my favorite!” as she pointed to the green one and then went on to state that the guys she dates can’t keep their hands off of her when she’s wearing that and that she’s not fond of the purple one. From around the corner, Alexis walked up and asked Marcus if he had found something. “I did find something, and she has been very helpful,” he replied. The rep, while frowning, reaches for the purple one and says, “This one is definitely the one you want?” Marcus laughs, grabs a basket, and puts the green set in it. Alexis says, “She said you should get the purple one.” Marcus responded, “I know. That’s why I didn’t get it.” When they got to the counter, Alexis made Marcus turn his back so he couldn’t see what she picked out and told him, “You will see it later baby.” In a sexy voice. He turned around seconds later he smelled something so alluring that it changed his whole mood, like an aphrodisiac. He opened his eyes and noticed Alexis had rubbed the lotion he picked on her hands. “Smells good, doesn’t it?!” she asked. Marcus replied, “Hell yeah and I can’t wait to rub it all over you!!” Alexis rolls her eyes at him playfully and asks, “Where to next?” “Wherever you want.” Marcus replied. “Ok, let's check out Foot Locker.” Alexis said, and they left there with matching sneakers. It had been a few hours since they had eaten, and Marcus spotted his favorite food to eat when he was in NY. A Dirty water hotdog stand. People called it dirty water because they kept the same hot dog water for weeks (lol). Alexis says, “You can’t be serious. You want me to eat a hot dog that’s been sitting in dirty water???” “Serious as a heart attack,” he responded! He ordered two with chili, cheese, & ketchup and a Pepsi. Alexis got two with mustard & sauerkraut and a bottle of water. A crowd was forming about a block down so they walked that way to see what was going on. Along the way, they passed a hat vendor who happened to have Dallas Cowboys hats. Marcus said, “These are nice!” Alexis picked out two of them and put her hair in a ponytail to put hers on, and put the other perfectly on Marcus’s head. They walked past the crowd and into the mini stands and had a seat. There were two groups having a dance battle. It was exciting to watch the acrobatic dance moves, but they had to eat their dirty water dogs before they got cold. Alexis was struggling to eat hers with her gloves on, so Marcus fed it to her so her hands would stay warm. He looks at her, enjoying the scene and eating her hot dog, and he lifts her hat slightly and kisses her softly, and says, “Thank you!” with an enduring grin. “What’s that for?” Alexis said, “Just because!” he responded. The show was over, and they were the only two left sitting there. It started to get really cold, so Alexis asked him if he was ready to go. Reluctantly, Marcus replied yes, so they walked to the car slowly. It had been a great day, and neither of them wanted it to end, but it was a few hours’ drive back home. Marcus opened and closed her door. When he got into the car, Alexis took her coat off and then moved over and sat on his lap. He laughed and said, “Hey I would love for you to ride me all the way home, but it’s gonna be kinda hard for me to drive like this!” “Just hold me.” Alexis responded, so he did while placing his fingers in the dimples of her back. He squeezed her as if this was their last day together. Alexis whispered in his ear, “Thank you so much for loving me. No man has made me feel the way you do. It’s scary to think about how close we’ve gotten. Really hard to believe that this could be forever.” Marcus looked deeply into her eyes and put his hand on the back of her neck and said “Alexis thank you for allowing me to love you, I promise you there is nothing to be afraid of and I want you to feel this good if not better forever.” He thought for just a second that what Alexis had said was strange, but since he knew what it feels like to be hurt he could understand the “too good to be true” frame of mind. Because she didn’t talk about her past much, he really didn’t know what she had been through. Alexis put her face in Marcus's neck so he couldn’t see the tears well up in her eyes. That didn’t work because he could feel them.

“Missy, what’s wrong? Why are you crying?” “Nothing, these are just tears of Joy.” Riding home, they listened to the Quiet Storm, then the Jam of the summer started playing, and Alexis started singing Into you by Tamia.

“I think you're truly something special.” Marcus spit Fab’s verse word for word. They laughed at each other's impersonations when the song was over, and Marcus told her he was serious and he meant every word he said.

A morning ride on the weekend with his Caribbean Queen is the perfect way to start the day. At a stoplight, Alexis says let’s go to the shore. Her wish was his command. Let’s gas up, Marcus said. She never thought she’d enjoy being on a motorcycle, but she loved it. The sound of the wind, the people that waved at them, how bikers that they didn’t even know would join them on the road, and let’s not forget the vibration of the motor. They spent the day and night in Atlantic City, playing games, winning stuffed animals that they gave away, eating, a little gambling, and they even went to a show. The ride back was beautiful, with a nice breeze in the fall air, and Alexis played the best songs. The E-Z pass lanes were closed, so they had to wait in the long toll lines. Finally, when it’s their turn, Marcus pulls up, and the collector says, “Hey Broozer!” He looks up and says, “What’s up Steph?” “Nothing much, I wish I was out riding like you.” He laughed and said, “Yeah there’s nothing like that two-wheel therapy.” He starts to introduce Alexis to Steph, “Steph, this is....” when she cuts him off and says, “Alexis!” Alexis looked with a puzzled expression on her face and said, “Hi!” Stephanie starts to explain to Alexis how she knows her. “Every time I see Marcus, he’s either on his way to see you or just left you. It’s a pleasure to finally meet you! I was starting to think he was lying.” She giggled and said, “He didn’t tell me how beautiful you are, you go girl!” Alexis (with a blank stare) thinks to herself, “my man is friends with this woman?” Stephanie was gorgeous and extra friendly. “Why isn’t Marcus attracted to her,” she thought? Suddenly, for the first time, there was doubt in her mind about their relationship. Why was she the woman of his dreams, she wondered to herself? “Alexis.....Alexis....Alexis!” Marcus said a little louder each time.

Alexis snaps out of the trance and says, “Yes?” So, Marcus tells her, “Stephanie was talking to you.” When the horns started blowing because they were holding up the line, Stephanie screamed at them to shut up. “If they keep messing with me, I will put my out-of-office sign-up and walk away.”

“It was nice meeting you Alexis. Hopefully we’ll meet again and have a chance to talk” Alexis responded, “Sounds good, nice meeting you too!”

Marcus could tell Alexis was kind of quiet the whole ride home. When they got to his house, he asked her if she was ok, and why she was so quiet. Alexis assured him that everything was ok, so they showered and got into bed. “Goodnight!” he said. Alexis turned and kissed him and said goodnight.

Thirty minutes later, Alexis was still awake. She looked at Marcus and wondered if he was really real. Touching his face, she said, “Babe......babe.......baby” Marcus answered her in a groggy voice, “Yes.” “I need to talk to you!” “What’s wrong Stinky Boo?” he asked. “Why aren’t you and Stephanie together?” “What???” Marcus replied, a little annoyed that she asked him that. Alexis repeated herself, and this time he said, “Because I’m not attracted to her, we’re just friends!” “So really, like nothing has ever happened between you and her?” “Nothing at all!” he says. “Well, I know you say that I am beautiful, but when I saw her, I said damn she’s a dime, and friends with my man. How can I compete with that!” Marcus pulled her close to him and said, “Missy, I don’t want anyone else but you, there is no competition. I have no clue who was in your past, but if you tell me I’m the one, then I’m going to believe you until I see otherwise. You are the one for me, and to prove it, I’m going to kiss you, knowing you have dragon breath right now!” They laughed and started to kiss intimately when he pushed back, looked at her, and said, “You better stop, cause you can get it, even with your stinkin breath!” Laughing, she says you’re so stupid and plays with the hair on his chest until she falls asleep. While she slept, Marcus thought about what he could get Alexis for Christmas that would be perfect. What about a cruise, a nice long vacation in the sun, just the two of them? Shortly after, he was sleeping and dreaming of ocean waves.
