For the reader

This book provides new information about hair loss, pattern baldness, alopecia as well as other hair and scalp problems.

This book is intended for those interested in the well-being of their hair and body, hair and healthcare professionals and those working with herbal medicine. The book provides useful, genuine information on how the state of the hair and body plays a role in maintaining voluminous hair throughout one’s life. The treatment methods have been tested with hundreds of test treatments.

It is crucial to understand that when it comes to hair loss, hair care does not instantly create voluminous, shiny and strong hair. For centuries, various pills and liquids have been claimed to be a quick solution to hair loss. There have even been some good products that were discontinued due to the lack of results. It was not always understood that hair loss is always caused by the influence of multiple factors – which is still not understood everywhere! Therefore, the problem remains ongoing.

The only reliable way to figure out the causes of hair loss, pattern baldness and alopecia is by examining the hair roots microscopically. No other method of examination provides adequate results. The general state of health can be checked with a blood test. Every problem must be treated either individually or simultaneously – depending on the possibilities.

The hair root area has not been researched by other fields before, not even the medical field from the perspective hair loss, pattern baldness and alopecia. This research has been done in Finland since the year 1985. The work is unique on a global scale!

The age of a person is irrelevant in hair loss treatment

Age is not a reason for hair shedding. As one ages, the body might encounter various ailments: slowing metabolism, drying skin, the influence of medication and disorders, possible gastrointestinal problems, and possibly unbalanced or even deficient nutrition. Starting hair-saving measures is beneficial regardless of age. Start treatment today and one day your hair will reach an astonishing condition – or at least be sufficiently voluminous. Why postpone it?

The author of this book

As for my university education, I have a Bachelor of Science degree (mathematics, physics and chemistry). At the age of 17, I started to lose hair, doctors being unable to find a solution to it. Only at the age of 40 a doctor detected a cause for my continuous throat infections: certain foods and dairy products. Changing my diet allowed my hair to regain its original strength.

It took about 3.5 years for my hair to get thicker! This awakened my interest in the microscopic examination of the hair roots. I have received support for my research from various professionals: knowledge about the human body from doctors, help for the research methods from professors, as well as information from nutrition professionals and researchers from various research projects. The results have been phenomenal – the hair starts re-growing and the body starts to feel better as well!

TYPES OF HAIR LOSS AND HAIR PROBLEMS

1. HAIR LOSS

What hair loss means

Hair has its own life span that is independent from the life span of humans. The life span of a hair follicle is limited, usually 2−6 years. The length of the life span depends of genetics. Hair replaces itself multiple times during a person’s lifetime. A human sheds about 50–100 hairs every day depending on the amount of individual hairs and normally the same amount of hairs grow back. Consequently, a standard amount of hairs remains on the head. So-called normal hair loss refers to the renewing of hair, which lasts for the entire life of a person.

In hair loss, the normal hair mass decreases.

If you have been healthy during puberty, your hair has turned into strong, adult hair. If the hair mass has decreased or the hair is shedding more than usual, you are suffering from some type of hair loss, which must be treated. It is always a dysfunction in the body and deep in the scalp, the growth area of hair roots.

Hair loss can look outside in different way. You cannot say any reason only just looking at a person, you need to do microscope hair research. It tells exactly, what is going on inside the body. Hair does not tell anything!

As for the number of causes of hair loss I have discovered on a single person during my examinations, the smallest number was three and the highest number was seventeen! Treating these causes and consequently eliminating the detrimental factors is necessary in order to achieve satisfactory results..

Regardless of the causes of hair loss, hair loss always signifies that the root of the hair shifts into a resting phase, or dies, during its growth, making the hair fall out prematurely. New hair will grow from the same hair follicle regardless of the person’s age but only after end of the growth cycle of the hair.

The growth cycle of a hair does not change, making it impossible to manipulate the time it takes for a new hair to start growing. It always takes nearly the time of the growth cycle to get close to the original thickness of the hair. There is no shortcut for growing back hair.

For example: Let’s assume that the age of a hair is 4 years. If the hair dies at the age of 3 years, a new hair will only start growing in the same spot after a year. However, 50– 100 new hairs start growing on different parts of the head every day. When the causes of hair loss are discovered and treatment starts, newborn hairs are given a new, complete life. It is better that the dead hairs fall off and give space to new, growing hairs.

Hair loss is a dysfunction in the body and the scalp, thus also a health issue.

To this day it is believed that hair loss is merely a cosmetic issue that should not be worried about. However, that is not the case. Hair loss is the result of a combined influence of multiple factors. As these factors are not fatal and therefore not considered serious, medical scientists have not attempted to investigate hair loss; they focus on fatal diseases.

In many cases, hair loss treatment has improved the quality of life. Unpleasant bodily dysfunctions like gastrointestinal problems, heartburn, inflammation and irritation in the scalp, unexplainable pains, fatigue, headaches etc. have disappeared. It is estimated that on average, at least 25 new hairs grow from the same hair follicle during a person’s lifetime. If the growth cycle of the hair is 4 years, a 100-year-old person should have a full head of hair! However, hair shedding is by no means age-related; hair loss is caused by other problems that are usually treatable, except for some diseases and medications that cause hair loss.

It can be offensive when a bald doctor says “but you do have hair!” to a patient suffering from hair loss. In medicine, treatments are only considered valid if they are scientifically proven.

However, there are many cases of successful treatments that do not have scientific evidence. It means that there should be a problem group and a placebo group in order to compare the subjects receiving the actual treatment and a placebo. However, the problem is that it is nearly impossible to find two completely homogenic groups, making the comparation impossible.

In cases of hair loss, the medical field tends to coldly ignore many natural remedies, doctors still prescribing cortisone for hair loss. Even stranger is the prescription of diuretics, which result in drying of the skin, scalp, hair and mucosa, increasing hair loss instead of improving hair growth.

On the other hand, there are also doctors that treat their patients with dietary supplements and natural treatment methods. As empirical and many research-based methods are helpful, wouldn’t it be the time to change the common views on the topic and act more broad-mindedly? A great example of this are treatments for hair loss, pattern baldness and alopecia, in which we have gained tremendous success in Hair Academy and our qualified member businesses here in Finland! See www.hiusakatemia.fi.

In medicine, hair roots and their growth area have not been researched, although they are the area that demonstrates causes for pattern baldness and alopecia.

Hair researchers trained by Hair Academy in Finland can determine the causes of hair problems from the hair roots using a microscope.

Hair loss is always a dysfunction in the body. The state of the hair starts improving gradually, meaning that results cannot been seen overnight. It takes about the time of the growth cycle of the hair for the hair to regain its original thickness, naturally depending on how early the patient has attended hair root analysis after starting to lose hair. Thus, growing back the original hair mass takes about 1½-6½ years.

It is always beneficial to check one’s health condition with a blood test.

When taking a blood test.

It is recommended to test e.g.

basic metabolic panelthyroid levelscholesterolblood sugarvitamin D3ferritinvitamin B12

When hair loss begins, it is also advisable to test one’s macromineral, trace mineral and vitamin levels as extensively as possible with a blood test. However, this might not always be possible due to financial reasons, as extensive blood tests tend to be expensive.

As for nutrition, DNA test is the most suitable

Food can play a big role in hair loss. From hair root analysis, we have detected many hair roots to suffer from deficient nutrition. Figuring this out can be difficult. What I recommend is investing in a DNA test that shows the suitability of nutrients, which is something that a blood test does not tell! However, be mindful about where you are going to get your test and take your time to find the best source.

When people are asked about their eating habits and whether they pay attention to what put in their mouths, the answer is usually “I eat healthy”. However, what a “healthy diet” actually means is an entirely different thing. Us humans are not copies of each other, as we all have different metabolisms, allergies, hypersensitivities and lifestyle choices such as smoking, fast food, processed food and sodas, especially drinks like coca cola, etc. It is important to note that making healthy lifestyle choices is not a financial issue, as smoking, alcohol and eating fast food is not cheap either. You can spend the same amount of money on healthy food.

Hair loss is caused by the combined influence of multiple factors

Thousands of hair loss studies have been conducted by Hair Academy in Finland, but never has there been an instance where only one factor would have caused hair loss. Hair loss is always caused by the combined influence of multiple factors, meaning that even a single, small problem can amplify the influence of the other factors. Thus, eliminating one problem is not enough to grow back the original amount of hair. Solving hair loss problems is the responsibility of a qualified hair researcher. At the moment, the only country in the world to receive training is Finland, www.hiuskatemia.fi.

Hypothetical examples of causes of hair loss. Certain causes influence hair loss strongly whereas other causes have a weaker influence.

Hair loss is caused by the combined influence of multiple factors, a minor factor amplifying the influence of the other factors.

One of the factors triggers hair loss. Often there have been long-term factors in the background that cause hair growth problems, such as slowing hair growth, weakening of the hair, or the worsening hair condition, these factors being left unnoticed or considered insignificant.

The moment hair loss is noticed, it has already been an ongoing issue. Exceptions to this are e.g. acute stress, shock, major blood loss, rapid weight loss and certain types of medication (e.g. cortisone and cytostatics).

Treating only one of the problems is certainly not enough. Every problem should be eliminated in order for the hair to gain its full thickness. However, in some situations only partial treatment gives results, as it is better than no treatment at all. This may be a decent solution to those who are content with terminating hair loss, even if the hair does not get thick. We all have different priorities in life, for some it is nice clothes, for others an excellent health, which also includes healthy hair in its ultimate condition. However, growing back a head full of hair does not happen by merely believing!

It is important to understand that hair loss, pattern baldness and alopecia are treatable. In many cases, treatment provides results and often lasts for years. When treatment is initiated as early as possible, the situation will get better in a moderate time. However, there is no shortcut!

A hair researcher will figure out all the factors contributing to your hair loss, pattern

baldness, alopecia or scalp problems. Finland trains hair researchers. Contact us:

Naturally, in the same way that many diseases have specific viruses or bacteria, in many cases of hair loss specific causes can be identified. However, as we are all individuals, there is no particular “treatment package”. Obviously, there are general instructions, but more specific ones can be created after attending hair root analysis.

2. HAIR ROOT ANALYSIS

What is hair root analysis?

What to know before a hair root analysis or scalp analysis

Before going to the appointment, Leave your hair unwashed for the amount of time usually between hair washes or at least a couple of days.Bring along a list of the names of the hair products, medicines and dietary supplements you use.It is advisable to bring along the results of a possible recently taken blood test.Reserve 2 -2.5 hours for hair root analysis and an hour for scalp analysis.

How is a hair root analysis performed?

Hair Academy uses an optical microscope by the brand Leica, designed for medical research. The microscope employs polarized lenses and a camera that can be connected to a television or a computer. This allows the customer to see the hair roots in real time. The type of the problems can be easily determined from the hair roots, provided that the analysist is a qualified hair researcher. At first, the customer is interviewed by being confidentially asked questions about hair wash and hair care habits, used products, stress, illnesses, medicines, lifestyle, diet and other topics possibly related to the problem.A hair researcher qualified by Hair Academy takes samples by carefully pulling out hairs with the roots. Examining outgrown hair is only useful when examining whether the keratin is damaged or normal. The hair roots are placed on a microscope slide with a drop of immersion oil, allowing the transillumination of the hair roots. Samples are taken from various parts of the head as the causes of hair loss can differ among different growth areas. Each hair root is analyzed separately and precisely. Written instructions are given to the customer. At first, the customer is told about the hair root analysis process, making the customer able to understand topics related to hair problem.

The hair root analysis is about to begin. Annikki is introducing Anna-Sofia to hair root analysis.

Hair root analysis can discover the causes of hair loss, alopecia, pattern baldness and scalp problems. (Ask for training www.hiusakatemia.fi)

The analysis is not for cosmetical purposes, although it gives advice on proper hair care. The main purpose of the analysis is to discover dysfunctions in the body and the scalp disrupting the growth and the well-being of the hair, as well as problems in the hair roots that prevent hair growth.

Normal, healthy hair root. The shape is identical among all people.

The impact of nutrient defiency and problems in intestines.

Neither eyes nor blood test reveal enough about hair problems.

When prominent, thinning of the hair, pattern baldness and alopecia are visible to the naked eye. However, subtle hair loss with abnormal renewal of hair is a common problem. For example, alopecia is common in many parts of the world. Not everyone suffering from alopecia gets bald spots; the hair can thin out on any part of the head. This is referred to as “alopecia predisposition” or “speck alopecia”. The only way to diagnose it is microscopically. There is no other way!

Of course, it is beneficial to take blood tests that give an insight into one’s health condition, including thyroid levels, hemoglobin, CRP levels, etc. The more blood tests taken, the more it helps the hair researcher performing the analysis.

Videocamera shows to your customers their hair reseach, in TV.

A health checkup for everyone

As hair gives an insight into the health of the body and possible irregularities in it, hair root analysis is a quick and easy health check-up!Further examinations like blood tests, MRIs, etc. can be performed based on the results of the hair root analysis if the results show signs of a disease.Do not wait until you start to lose hair or postpone going to a hair root analysis after hair loss has started – check your condition with a hair root analysis. After the analysis, choose your priority in life: is it good health and strong hair or things like new clothes and shoes? The choice is yours!

As hair loss is caused by the combined influence of multiple factors, one or multiple factors trigger the visible hair loss. However, the hair loss process has usually started earlier but it may have been slow and unnoticeable. Often people only get concerned when their hair has become visibly thinner or they start shedding more hair than before.

There is no need to lose hope even if the hair loss continues after beginning treatment. On the first appointment with a hair researcher, people tend to have plenty of hair roots that have died during the growth phase. The reasons for the death of hair roots during their growth phase cannot always be determined.

When the initially determined causes of hair loss have been treated, a new factor contributing to the problem might be discovered in further check-ups. For instance, the hair roots may show the presence of an additional factor after the treatment of an inflammation because sebum build up, a consequence of the inflammation, has concealed other problems. For example, the influence of stress can prevent detecting demodex.

It is important to not lose hope or quit hair treatment.

Instead, contact a hair researcher again. Further check-ups are crucial in order to

achieve satisfactory results.

We take pictures of the hair in the very beginning of the treatment as it is impossible to see the difference when looking in the mirror daily. A picture every 6 months tells the truth!

Age is not a reason for hair loss

It is common to hear that “you lose hair as you age”. However, this saying is not completely true. Hair does get somewhat thinner as the skin ages and aging might bring along various diseases and dysfunctions that play a role in the thinning and weakening of hair, eventually leading to hair loss. But why is that not the case for everyone in the world?

It is essential to remember that a hair has its independent, short lifespan and therefore renews itself all the time. The same hair strand does not keep growing forever; it falls off and a new hair starts growing at the same spot. Normally it appears as the previous hair has fallen off. As for hair loss however, the hair dies during its growth phase. Thus, it will take an undefined amount of time for a new hair to start growing.

Aging can bring along thinning hair or more visible hair loss, which often causes distress. Doctors tend to act indifferent towards hair loss as they are focused on more serious illnesses. They do not consider hair loss to be an important health issue. However, that is not true given that hair loss can be a consequence of various dysfunctions and diseases. Booking a hair root analysis is always beneficial! We have managed to help people as old as 90 to grow their hair back!

There are plenty of old people with thick hair! In most cases, the qualities those people share are positivy, healthy lifestyle, physical activity and self-appreciation. Naturally, genetics also ply a role.

Few old people seek help from hair root analysis when their hair starts thinning even though the problem is prevalent among them. This is simply because hair loss is believed to be automatically linked to aging, as if it was a normal part of it. That is certainly not the case! The actual causes of hair loss are in most cases detectable and fixable, regardless of age. The best decision to make is to book a hair root analysis appointment and follow the instructions you receive.

A happy fact is that the lifespan of a hair is 2–6 years and it keeps renewing itself for

a person’s entire life. Hair loss can always be treated regardless of age, as long as the

patient does not suffer from a disease or use medication that causes hair loss.

Una Nuotio is 91 years old. Her hair is perfect and all are her own!

Example: Older person’s hair.

65-year-old Anneli Öhman, attended hair root analysis. Her friends had warned her from wasting her money. However, an acquaintance had benefitted from the analysis, convincing Anneli to try it for herself. The results were excellent! She was surprised as natural, healthy curl formed in her hair without purposely curling it!

Anneli Öhman 65 years old before hair root analysis.

After 5 months of treatment.

After over a year, the hair became curly!

The final result with dyed hair. Brilliant!

Reasons for hair loss among elderly people

1. Dehydration

no sense of thirst, insufficient water intakeexcessive coffee drinkingillnesses, medicines

2. Poor peripheral circulation

3. Limited or lack of exercise

4. Lack of good fats, omega-3 deficiency

5. Excessive consumption of dairy products. Unnecessary calcium intake. Consuming high amounts of dairy products and additional calcium pills in order to strengthen bones is outdated and invalid advice, as the result of this kind of diet can be the opposite: osteoporosis.

6. Gastrointestinal problems, such as:

constipationenzyme deficiencyunbalanced dietabsence of gastric acid (atrophic gastritis)

7. Exposure to mold. For example, old buildings might contain unnoticeable incidents of water damage.

8. Scalp inflammation

Demodex carrying bacteriaPoor or infrequent hair washing, unsuitable shampoo or inability to wash hair properly due to mobility impairment..

9. Nutrition / nutrient deficiency. Unbalanced diet.

10. Protein deficiency. Especially people living alone tend to gravitate towards a diet consisting of foods like porridge and bread.

11. Iron deficiency Dairy products prevent iron absorption.

12. Trace mineral or vitamin deficiency.
