Dogs can talk. Not only that but they expect an answer. In this delightful narrative, Dakota, a three year old lab-pit, tells the story of her journey with her best friend.
She is witty and funny throughout, and talks about her level of perception and of understanding, how it feels to be a canine, her special relationship with Sealy the cat, a charismatic feline who also shares her home.

Her dad is the main character in the story, with whom she shares an extraordinary relationship. Her family, her tribe, consists of her human and Sealy.

This book will give the pet parent a better understanding of their babies, how they feel and what they are trying to communicate to us.

I DAKOTA: CONVERSATIONS WITH MY HUMAN

R. W. YOUNG

INTRODUCTION

Those of us who have pets share a bond, a trust and a relationship of pure joy with them that very few others would understand. People acquire pets for many years to come for different reasons… for protection, as a company for young kids, as a guide / emotional support animal, or maybe just to have another living organism around to stave off loneliness and boredom. Still, others see dollar signs as they diminish the animal's actual value and put it at risk with reckless backyard breeding.

These creatures just want to love and please us and they deserve all the love, protection and providence that we can give them.

Ever since I became an adult, I've always had a dog, and my life was made rich and far more rewarding as a result.

They taught me about love, patience, forgiveness, trust and loyalty, and whether they are one or one hundred pounds, they'll protect you with their lives… what's not to love?

Dakota was a gift from a neighbor. Although I have had several canines, this was the first time that I started with a small puppy. Most of the others ranged from months to a couple of years old when they came to me. Dakota, however, was a mere three weeks old when we met. She was gifted to me by a neighbor whose female had recently had pups. I fell in love instantly. Her intense black eyes, black shiny coat and stubborn, no-nonsense demeanor ( even at that tender age) stole my heart. I held her close and we never looked back. That was three years ago. This book is the story of our journey through the years, as seen through her eyes.

MY STORY

So, I know you're probably blown away hearing that a canine can talk. And I can understand that because most of us can't. Well, we talk to each other all the time, but we rarely, if we ever, talk to humans. There's a reason for this. However, they simply wouldn't understand us. My human is different. He not only understands my language, but I understand him as well. Actually, some of our communication is mental- telepathic- if you will, some is vocal and some by gesture, but it's always clear and effective. I get vibrations from his tone of voice or his aura. From the very beginning, when he came into my life - or rather, when I came into him - I have studied him like a book, observing and absorbing every nuance of his personality, mostly through the colors and textures of the auras that emanate from his body! And anyway, I just simply love this strange-looking human creature who is now my new parent.

And that's exactly why I am writing this book, to share with other canines, and with humans too, how I think and feel and how I communicate with my dad, my human and my friend. In it, I talk about our lives together and how we love, guide and protect each other. But first, a little background on myself.

My name is Dakota Rose, and I was born 14 months ago - approximately four doors down this same block. I just celebrated my 14-month birthday today with fresh, juicy butcher bones and confetti- it seems like light years away from when I was born in a cold backyard shed on this very block that I now live on… in fact, I was born exactly four houses away. I am of a mixed breed, part Pitbull and part Labrador Retriever. The lab came from my dad's side. I am the spitting image of him: thick, jet-black hair, a white, cross-shaped mask and a long string tail. We are commonly called a Labpit or Pit-lab, as you prefer.

IN THE BEGINNING

FOUR WEEKS OLD

According to my mom, It seems that I had a total of nine brothers and sisters in the beginning, but by the time my eyes were opened, I only saw 4 of us. Sadly, my parents told me that several of my other siblings had died.
