Spooked on an Eerie Night

The end of another work week had arrived.  It was Friday night when Shauna stayed late at the Library to archive old narrative data information into a very tedious computer program.  She was an Archive Coordinator, a job she enjoyed but resented the gruelling late night hours spent to document data.  A decision implemented by her persuasive Librian Manager, who felt it was better to archive after hours to eleviate any disruptions during regular library hours.  It had gotten quite late glancing at her watch when she hurried to complete her work as the eerie echoes of solitariness began to give her the creeps.  She gathered all of her documents and placed them into the file cabinet across the room from the little round table of which she sat on the upper level of the large library.  She ambled down the stairs turning off the lights as she neared to the front entrance of the library and once outside, she locked the doors as the sharp night chill caused her to shiver quickly putting on her jacket.  As she strolled down the long sidewalk towards her car, she witnessed a group of college kids larking around on the other side of the street presumably heading to their dorms since a local Junior College was down the street. Nearing her vehicle she heard the girls dreadful scream from a distance when she stopped and panicked quickly looking back then sighed thinking, “Silly kids!” Finally arriving at her little two-seat Miata, she placed her attache' case into the trunk of her vehicle when she heard an instant loud rustle from tree branches near her.  It sounded as if something leaped into the wooded brush startling her on that eerie night, as she stood staring trying to access the reckless commotion.

“What was that?” She thought slowly closing her trunk.

“Hello! Whose there?” She uttered noticing something bending the branches away to watch her.

Now quite scared as she slowly backed away still accessing the crackling turmoil from within the brush, she spotted a large gruesome looking eye peering back at her from the brush when she became terrified.  She panicked avidly unlocking her car door and leaped inside when impetuously something pounced on the hood of car as she frantically started it and sped away.  Quite shakened from fright, she kept glancing into her rear view mirror hoping she wasn't being pursued by this unknown thing in increasing speed. There was a red light at the intersection and quite hysterically she fled right through it failing to see the parked cop who turned on his siren in his pursuit.

“Oh my goodness a police!” She thought when she quickly veared over anxiously awaiting his approach.

She watched as he ambled from his car to approach her.

“Oh come!  C'mon!!  She panicked promptly letting down the window eager to speak with him.

“Good evening ma'am!  We're you aware you were speeding doing a 75 in a 45 mile speed zone?”

“Yes officer I know!  That's because I saw something very horrifying back there and I was trying to get as far away from it as I possible can!”

“Ma'am let me see your license and registration please.” She hurried to give him her credentials.

“Could we hurry this up officer, I really would like to get going!”
