Micah had been waiting for the perfect opportunity to gain intel on Smithe. He had killed her parents ruthlessly. Micah wanted revenge. She wanted to expose him and all his wrong doings to the entire world. He had run rampant through the world as if he owned it, treating others as useless pawns in the overall scheme of things. She wanted him to pay for the lives he had taken and the pain he had caused.

And pay he would, she vowed.

She had finally gotten an informant to agree to a meeting, to discuss the issues at hand. She made sure she was going into the meeting prepared for the revenge she sought. This man would not get away with treating people as disposable. Micah wanted answers though, before she took her revenge. Why were her parents killed? Was his cure so damn important that it meant killing innocent people to protect it?

Micah’s mother was an advanced scientist working on top secret projects for the government when Smithe had lured her away to work on a private venture. He had used the same encouragement to lure her father to work on this project as well. And neither of them made it out of that project alive. Why?

Micah arranged a clandestine meeting with the informant. She planned on not only killing him but outing this top secret project he was working on. What was that project and could it help mankind in general? Was it worth her parents lives? So many questions but she hoped to have the answers very soon. She drove to the meeting place in silence as she plotted her next move.

Once she had arrived she parked her car about two hundred yards away. It would not be a good thing if her car was spotted before she could enter the building and do some investigation. She had to have something solid, something concrete to present for her article, maybe Smithe would fess up to the deeds he had done. That didn’t seem likely though. Smithe was a man who considered himself above the law.

After the war of 2022 there were many dilapidated buildings, left in ruins waiting for demolition. The meeting was to take place in one of these buildings. Micah had told only one person of where she had planned to go today, Alexis. Although she wanted this man brought down, she did not trust the informant with her own safety. Micah would go to the ends of the earth for a good story, but she always made sure she would err on the side of caution as well. She was a investigative journalist. It was condescending the idea some people had of what exactly her job was. She did not sit in a stuffy office cranking out crap stories for a news rag tabloid.

No, her job was far more sophisticated than those old ideas. Like today she was having a secret meeting with an informant for a story that promised to go worldwide.

Micah had the skills of an expert Cat burglar. She also knew she would tap into many of those skills today alone. She scaled the fire escape until she got to the roof. She found a trapdoor that led into the elevator shaft. Micah yanked the door open and stared into the dark abyss below her. She had to slow her breathing down. This was no time to get overly excited or scared. Micah anchored the rope and stepped into the harness. She felt like that guy on that old television show, Mission Impossible. She carefully kept lowering herself until she reached the floor just above the meeting area.

Micah had dressed in all black, it was easier to avoid the sentries if they could not see you. The world was in a state of war to this day. The rebellion was losing and the people were terrified every day. Her dark hair and olive skin helped aid in her appearance of invisibility. She loved this part of the job though. She felt like a character in a movie, slinking along walls, lowering herself through trapdoors and secretly meeting an informant she knew nothing about. Her heart threatened to race again so she stopped long enough to slow it down before she descended the stairs to the floor where the meeting would occur.
