The company, founded by a right-wing Christian and ex-Navy SEAL named Erik Prince, boasts 20,000 troops, a fleet of 20 aircraft, and its own military base. It is virtually a private army capable of overthrowing governments, responding to natural disasters, or mounting significant operations in the war on terror. In fact, Blackwater’s mercenaries have deployed in Iraq, Afghanistan, and even New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
