Book Presentation: Blog by Hugh Hewitt

Book Abstract

In Blog, Hugh Hewitt shows how the advent of blogs has revolutionized the media and empowered individuals. With blogs, anyone can be a journalist. Just as Martin Luther used the printing press to spread his ideas and crumble the authority of the Papacy, bloggers can spread ideas, uncover stories and expose politicians and mainstream media. In our time, the most fatal mistake anyone – from politicians to reporters to publishers – can make is to fail to understand the destructive power of the blogosphere.

Hewitt wants to help readers understand, exploit and defend against the power of blogs. He defines key terms, lists several of the most trusted and popular blogs and explains how bloggers have already destroyed powerful political and media personalities.

About the Author

Hugh Hewitt is the host of a nationally syndicated radio show and a Professor of Law at Chapman University Law School. He is also the author of the New York Times bestseller If It’s Not Close, They Can’t Cheat. He is a weekly columnist for The Daily Standard and he runs a hugely popular blog at HughHewitt.com.

Summary of Blog (Hugh Hewitt)

What is a Blog?

“Blog” is short for weblog. A weblog is a journal or diary published on the Internet, usually by one to three regular contributors. In 1999, the first weblog was born. By 2005, that lone weblog was joined by 4,000,000 more – a stunning explosion.

Blogs first gained widespread attention when they made the leap into political commentary – a category called poliblogs. They raised money for candidates and shaped the 2004 Presidential election. Another important blog category sprang up after the attacks on September 11th, 2001: warblogs. These focused on the war in Iraq.
