In Eco-Freaks, Berlau explores the many ways in which he believes shortsighted environmentalism actually endangers trees, wildlife, and people. He tackles several issues including global warming and climate change, trees and pollution, the dangers of pesticides such as DDT, fuel economy and the auto industry, the threat posed by asbestos, and plans to “rewild” America.
Berlau believes that environmentalism is actually putting America on the brink of danger and in Eco-Freaks, he explains exactly how and why this happening.
Berlau’s background ranges from Washington correspondent for Investor’s Business Daily, investigative reporter for Insight magazine to an Economic Policy fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute. He received the 2002 Sandy Hume Memorial Award for Excellence in Political Journalism from the National Press Club. Berlau has also been a fellow at the Hoover Institute at Stanford University and has written for many publications including Reader’s Digest, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal.
Environmental activists, particularly those of the Hollywood variety, view fear as a legitimate method for engaging the public in their cause. These activists profess terror about global warming and other environmental problems. What terrifies Berlau is that most of these activists don’t know enough about the very things they are protecting and this could reduce mankind to a pitiful existence ruled by nature, rather than coexisting with it.
