Tancredo asserts that America’s borders still remain a grave security risk, now five years after 9/11. Our immigration system is broken and corrupt. In addition to permitting the threat of terrorist infiltration, our immigration system permits thousands of illegal immigrants to enter each year and the growth of mass illegal immigration costs taxpayers billions in enforcement and also burdens local and state governments that provide social services like healthcare and education.
Tancredo also believes that the drastic changes in our cultural landscape resulting from mass immigration, coupled with the pernicious and enduring influence of multiculturalism, have resulted in the balkanization of American identity. This crisis of American identities and values can only negatively impact our position and effectiveness in the global arena as we struggle against terrorism.
Tom Tancredo is the Republican Congressman for the 6th District of Colorado, located south of Denver. He was first elected to Congress in 1998 and he serves on the International Relations Committee and the Resources Committee. Tancredo created the House Immigration Reform Caucus in 1999, of which he is chairman. He has become nationally known as an outspoken critic of immigration policy.
