The Magic of Movies

In our celebrity-obsessed culture, most reporting focuses on the trivial, “tabloidy” and salacious activities of Hollywood. The truth is, throughout the history of film in America, Hollywood has been at the forefront of taking on the issues of the day.

There have been three distinct periods in American movies; the Great Depression movies of the ‘30s, the war against fascism of the ‘40s, and the counterculture classics of the ‘60s and ‘70s, where filmmakers influenced politics and found a receptive mass audience for their ideas and messages.
