Carol was quite depressed with her life, as she dealt with many issues of trying to satisfy her family and a deceitful boyfriend, yet hindering her desire to be loved and happy. Feeling overwhelmingly pressured, she escaped the family turmoil for some much needed air by taking a long stroll one night when she was spooked by a creepy and unusual old scarecrow.

It was late one evening when Carol eased away from all of the household fracas to take a much-needed walk and to have a much-needed cigarette smoke. There was something about the country night air that calmed her spirit. It was so crisp, refreshing and mentally stimulating and oftentimes, it was the only way she could unwind.
She noticed James, a neighbor from down the road was on his way to work at the old mill and stopped to say hello.
“Hello, Carol!”
“Hello, James!” You on your way to work,” Carol inquired?
“Yep, on my way to the “old salty mine,” they call it. I sure hate to go but I got to keep food on the table, the bills paid, and my wife content.” James chuckled.
“I hear that! We do what we have to do to survive,” she expressed.
“Yea, you got that right! So you're taking a late evening stroll I see.”
“Yea, I just needed to clear my head a little. You know, family matters.”
“Oh yeah, I know what you’re talking about! Sometimes that's what we have to do until things cool down – you know, to regroup. It will be okay though, there is always going to be issues with family. That's life, youcan't get around it! Well, don’t wander off too far, someone might getcha,” he joked.
“Are you kidding me! As mad as I am right now, I wish a fool would just try it! You can believe they will have a fight on their hands and when I get through with them, they will think twice before they bother me or anyone else again,” she concluded.
“Ooh! I'm scared of you! Tonight ain't ready for you girl, you're tough,” he chuckled. “Well let me get on. You have a good evening now!”
“Okay! You too,” she smiled.

She lit another cigarette and continued her walk down the road. The night was so peaceful. The only sounds she heard were the sounds of frogs and crickets. As she pondered, it seemed so unfair to her that she had to always carry the load when other members of the household aren't doing their fair share in contributing. These issues always fell on her and no matter what she did it was never enough. She was in a rut and was starting to feel that she was being taken for granted and often hoped to have a place of her own one day.
As she ambled on, another thought came to mind, she thought of Randy, her significant other and wondered what his true feelings were in regards to their relationship. She wondered if he truly meant the words he often expressed as sweet sentiments of his love. He alleged he loved her and that she was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with when repeatedly his actions demonstrate otherwise!
'I don’t know why I put up with all of his lies and games, I mean, can't he just once do right by me! Everything is based on his terms and never when I want to do something then he disappears for days at a time and never tells me where he’s been! I should just leave him alone and move on with my life,' she thought.
There was a small piece of her that wanted to hang on to the relationship because, despite his shortcomings, he had some qualities she loved about him. Mainly, he was good-looking and he has belled her out of a few tight jams before and even though he pulls these disappearing acts on her, she wanted to see if he would change his ways. However, on the other hand, there was a justifiable portion that clearly shows he wasn't worth the hassle and I should let him go.
