With these pages, I wish to fulfill his long-held desire: to have his experiences recorded, not simply as a recollection, but as a living message — one that cautions against stubborn pride and inflexible thought.

Out of respect for the traditions of our Indonesian heritage, I call him “Uncle Mike.” This title signifies more than age — it embodies the values of reverence, harmony, and kinship deeply rooted in our culture.

To address him as “Uncle” is to acknowledge his wisdom and his role as a guiding presence within our community. It is an expression of gratitude — a way of honoring his contributions and reinforcing the bonds of mutual respect that unite us as members of the Vishnuh Society.

The life of this man stands as a symbol of perseverance, faith, and the enduring power of the human soul to rise above adversity. His story reminds us that every setback, every sorrow, may be transformed into strength through inner belief and unbroken will.

One might surmise that his remarkable adaptability and diverse talents were, in part, a form of escape — a way to confront, or perhaps outrun, a deeper personal suffering that dogged him relentlessly. Those with keen perception, particularly those with ill intentions, could quickly recognize the true nature of Uncle Mike. His openness, honesty, and warmth radiated from him naturally, yet these same qualities rendered him vulnerable. His kindness, his gentle demeanor, and his innocent appearance, emblematic of the refined Indisch character, often made him appear an easy target.
