CHAPTER ONE – A BLAST FROM THE PAST

––––––––

THE BEEP OF HER CELL phone sliced through her concentration and she scowled. What the fuck now? she cursed.

The damn phone had been ringing all day, interrupting her work. Every time she checked, it was a private number. She never answered to private numbers.

Curious, Fiona checked and saw a message – of course, from another damn private number. Or maybe the same private number. Her black eyebrows arched in annoyance.

What the heck? Someone really wants to tell me something, she reflected and decided to check the message.

Answer to the fucking phone, Fi. If not, you won’t like the consequences.

Fiona’s blue eyes widened at the direct threat. Uneasiness crept in her mind.

That very second, the phone rang again and she winced. She thought not to answer, at first. She didn’t react well to threats, and never backed down in confrontations. Yet, her curiosity was aroused now.

She slid the bar on the screen and answered, “Hello!”

For a second she heard just someone breathing, and, with a disgusted frown, considered she’d better ring off. Before she could do it, a throaty manly voice reached her ears.
