I Was Sooo Bored in History Class

I am bored. Bored, bored, bored.

Sooo bored.

Mr. Glenn. My history teacher. He's got the geekiest eyes I've ever seen. He has such bad breath. It always smells like garbage. I bet he's a virgin. What is he even talking about? He just drones on and on. I think it's something to do with the pioneers.

I am convinced all the excitement is going on RIGHT THIS SECOND, outside these school walls. And I want to be part of it. I am literally ITCHING to be part of it!

Who cares about the dumb old Pioneers, anyway? What relevance do they have to my life? They didn't even have computers back then!

It's too boring for me to waste my brain cells contemplating.

I know what I need to do. I need to break out of this drab building of death and head out towards the excitement.

I have never cut a single class, before. I've always wanted to try it, but I don't want to get caught.

I am such a goody-goody.

But I'm tired of being a goody goody! It's boring. And I don't think I can take any more boringness in my life right now.

So when the end-of-class bell rings, I stash my books in my locker, and head towards the door.

"Janina! Where are you going?" my best friend Diane calls out.

Diane comes running up to me. She's always wearing the same outfit - a pair of jeans and some sort of striped top.

BORING! I scream in my head.

"Guess what I'm doing?" I hiss in a sneaky voice, like I'm some sort of bad guy in a movie. "Uh...walking down the hallway?" Diane says. "You look really serious, like you're on some kind of mission."

"I am!" I tell her. Then I stop and say the next part in a loud whisper. "I'm cutting! Right now! Want to come?"

Diane's baby blue eyes open wide.

"Why?" she asks.

I shrug.

"Just because..." I answer. "I feel like it. I'm sooo bored!"

Diane looks disapprovingly at me.

"I have a meeting after eighth period," she states in a fussy voice. "I don't want to miss it."

Ever since Diane joined the school newspaper, she'd become so super boring. The newspaper is all she cares about. She's always trying to get me to join, but I'm not interested.

"But you're such a good photographer!" she's always pointing out.

That's true. I love taking pictures...pictures of INTERESTING things, like me wearing sparkly purple eye-shadow. Not boring school things, like Tia and Marky from Spanish club holding up a sign that says HOLA! So I always turn Diane's offer down.

"Suit yourself!" I say.

"What should I tell people?" Diane asks.

"I don't know..." I say, marching boldly out the thick double doors. "Just tell them....I won the lottery! See ya!"

I leave Diane standing there with her mouth hanging open.

I walk past all the kids who liked to hang out by the door; the kind of kids who always got in trouble. They don't even pay any attention to me in my sweet white dress that screams I AM AS INNOCENT AS A LITTLE FAIRY IN THE FOREST.

That was too easy! I think, as I walk through the neighborhood outside the school. I'll just write a dummy note to bring in tomorrow with a fake signature. They won't even question me, probably.
