Dear Readers, this book aims to help you on your path to self-realisation. Sure, it's a long path, but writing helps us all the way. This method we learn in school just needs a bit of a conscious tweak. Yoga means a conscious endeavour to connect to our original nature. The spiritual nature of humans is always looking for connection, because this connection means a certain taste in which we find pleasure. In this book a thought-provoking path is presented to 1) establish a spiritual connection with the Absolute Truth, 2) to channel emotions, thoughts and ecstasies through this connection 3) to bring about a revolution in one's boring and stagnant material life and 4) to reawaken love of God. This book is aimed to give a taste to modern human beings (who are defined as 'wise') to relish spiritual loving relationships with God. It is also to challenge the egocentric and antigonistic world of men by presenting a better understanding of human life and purpose. Furthermore it is to bring freedom to the diseased mind and heart of modern human beings in a way that even a child can understand. Finally, it may bring back the pleasure of serving God and His devotees, simply by writing.

“In this Age of Kali, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu has descended to preach the religion of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Therefore the chanting of the holy names of Lord Kṛṣṇa is the religious principle for this age.” (CC Madhya-Līlā 11.98)

Foreword

Kṛṣṇa Consciousness Basics is a series of books written and compiled by Yashomatinandana Dāsa for the pleasure of his spiritual teachers, like Śrīla Prabhupāda.

By refreshing the ancient Vedic teachings of Bhakti-Yoga the author aims to build a bridge between ancient wisdom and modern thinkers who are willing to lead a life of spiritual relationships.

In the series are books about faith, searching truth &self-realisation through the ancient teachings of Kṛṣṇa Consciousness as spoken by Lord Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, 5000 years ago.

Writing is the perfect bond. Anywhere and with everyone one can simply connect through writing. It is the most powerful art and thus it needs proper training. One needs to have a guide, a person who gives light into the darkness of mind and matter. This guide is not materially oriented but spiritually inclined, being based on Śrimad Bhāgavatam and the devotional tradition of Kṛṣṇa Consciousness.

“By regular attendance in classes on the Bhāgavatam and by rendering of service to the pure devotee, all that is troublesome to the heart is almost completely destroyed, and loving service unto the Personality of Godhead, who is praised with transcendental songs, is established as an irrevocable fact.” (ŚB 1.2.18) In this book a thought-provoking path is presented to 1) establish a spiritual connection with the Absolute Truth, 2) to channel emotions, thoughts and ecstasies through this connection 3) to bring about a revolution in one's boring and stagnant material life and 4) to reawaken love of God.

This book is aimed to give a taste to modern human beings (who are defined as ‘wise’) to relish spiritual loving relationships with God.

Introduction

Dear Readers,

this book aims to help you on your path to self-realisation.

One might be connecting to sex, a temporary pleasure that is meant for creating offspring. One may connect to drugs, which are even more temporary and illusive, one may connect to video games, arts, music and find some pleasure here and there, but this also seems to come and go. The science of Yoga is actually aimed to establish a connection to the Supreme Pleasure, which comes as a pleasure potency, a personality and the source of pleasure. Thus connected with the Supreme Personality named Kṛṣṇa along with His pleasure potency called Hare, the spiritual power, Rāma, bliss blooms and enables us to experience lasting happiness and eternal joy.

But how do we attain this connection?

Yoga is a system which can be dovetailed with any art, thus making it a spiritual art. Writing is an art that we learn from early age on, back then it started in a simplified matter. Throughout the years it became

refined and more sophisticated. But is the heart involved when we consciously put our thoughts to paper?

Yoga is essentially aiming at Bhakti, devotion, to enhance our experience of life. It is intensifying our consciousness by using our life as a Via Medium for Supreme Pleasure.

For example, by connecting our writing with the innermost feelings of love and devotion, the writing becomes filled with loving intention. This can then act as a Via Medium for sincere feelings, feedback and understanding of others. A channel is established that enables one to experience ever-fresh feelings and mellows of love.

We can write about dry philosophy but that doesn't touch the heart. What the innermost heart desires is expression of one's ability to love and serve others.

Writing is thus a simple way forward, out of the darkness of hate, frustration and illusion. We all fight with it, no doubt, but we need not surrender to the darkness as long as we have the sword of writing with us.

“The pen is mightier than the sword”
