Beschreibung

Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo is the descendant of the famous and prominent family of Italian artists Tiepolo: his father was the artist Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, and his brother was Lorenzo Baldissera Tiepolo. Domenico Tiepolo was born in Venice where he studied art and painting at his father's studio initially. Domenico, together with his older brother, helped sketched patterns of paintings to be transferred to finished paintings. Later Domenico himself discovered his own studio. While helping his father's work to decorate some of the famous cathedrals in Europe, Domenico Tiepolo developed his own unique and original style of painting, which flourished especially after his father's death when he returned to Venice. At first, sticking to his father's decorative style, he later began to paint more realistically, in a more vibrant and brighter colour. Gradually the religious scenes in his paintings were replaced by more secular subjects.

Foreword

His invention was the image of Punchinello, a clown of the Italian commedia dell'arte. Domenico develops this character in various comic situations in a series of over 100 drawings, shaped like 'Entertainments for the Children'.

Domenico Tiepolo was also the author of many magnificent and bright frescoes in private villas and houses with stories of mythology and carnival scenes. Unlike the frescoes painted by his father, which were epic and majestic, Domenico's frescoes were full of humour and fun.

In addition to an oil painter and fresco artist, he was also an excellent master of the fast drawing with watercolours and pencil, as well as a printmaker.
