The return of the guards
from
Paula Levendig
Foreword
In the second book, the journey would be
continued. The truth that had freed Mira, Clara
and Eyron spread throughout the world, bringing
to light secrets that would have been better kept
hidden and attracting the nights willing to do
anything to control this new reality.
The book would focus on the return of the
Guardians
2
They are concentrating on an old order that once
swore to maintain the balance between truth and
power. But the Guardians were broken,
splintered by betrayal and discord. Mira and her
companions would be forced to revive these
alliances of their own as they fight enemies,
rising from both their past and the darkness of
the new truth.

whose
Water holds an old, hidden power. There they

truth, and how even in the deepest darkness a
light can shine.
Chapter 1: The Guardian of the Key
Hell was deep black canvas, interspersed with
silver stars that watch over the world like silent
witnesses. In the distance rose a mountain range,
the peaks of which glittered in the moonlight.
Below, hidden among the shadows of ancient
images, lay an abandoned fortress.
The walls of the fortress wait, marked by time,
its stones cracked and overgrown with moss. But
despite their condition, they radiated an
unwavering presence from a relic of an era when
the Guardians watched over the balance of the
world. In the middle of the dilapidated Stuntman
farm. His cloak beds in the cold wind, and his
form was a mixture of strength and age. His
eyes, imbued with an inner fire, looked at your
tablet, which had been reached in the middle of
the square.
"It's time, "Groundhog, his voice come as a
whisper.
5
The plaque began to glow, a faint, golden light
that slowly spread over the surface. Ancient
runes await life, and an eerie hum fills the air.
"Guardian of balance," he repeated as the wind
raged around him. I'll call you back! Your world
needs you, the truth had freed itself, and the
darkness rises to devour it "The light of the
tablet exploded in a blinding beam. For a
moment, the entire fortress was bathed in golden
glow. And then quietly.
A new call far away, in a small clearing by a
river, Mira wakes up drenched in sweat. Her
heart was racing and she was gasping for air.
Take it, Clara, who had been alarmed so often,
stirred. "What happened?" asked Clara.
Mira looks into the distance, her eyes full of
confusion and worry." I don't know. But I felt
something. Something called us." Clara
frowned." A call? By whom?"
"I don't know," Mira replied as she slowly
straightened up.
"But it feels like a baby. Something old
awakens. Something we can't ignore.
6
The Call of Shadows
At the same time, in a city far from the place of
call, a figure opened his eyes. The man, dressed
in worn robes, sat in a crowded taproom. His
face was confused, but his eyes were bright and
alert.
I felt it, as did Mira and the others. The call had
reached him.
With a heavy sigh he rose and reached for a long
staff that leaned against his side." So that's how
it starts again," Murmel Dr. Punkt.
The guests in the taproom took no notice of him
as he stepped out into the cold night. But the air
around him seemed to change, as if recognizing
his importance.
The last words of the prologue
The final words of the prologue all over the
world, in cities, forests and mountains, those
who were once called the Guardians began to
receive their own signs. Some ignored the call,
while others see it for what it was: a warning.
7
The Guardians were scattered, theirs shattered
by years of war and betrayal. But now a new
movement began: the truth was revealed, and
with it came chaos and power. The Guardians
had to return, but not everyone who heard the
call was ready to restore the balance.
A wolf howled in the distance, and the moon
shone brighter than ever. The Guardians will
return or the world will burn.
The Power of Shadows
The night was cool, and the wind carried the
scent of ring and moss through the dense trees of
the forest. Mira pulled her cloak tighter around
her as she walked along the narrow path. The
moon was but a narrow crescent streak in the
sky, and the darkness seemed alive, an endless
shadow that followed her at every turn.
8
Behind her trudged Eyron and Clara, their steps
heavy and marked by the long journey. It had
been weeks since they had found the first clues
to the prophecy. Weeks full of puzzles that they
had solved and dangers that they had survived.
But now that they had almost reached the lake,
Mira felt strangely empty. "Are we sure that this
is the right way?" asked Lea in a trembling
voice. The lantern in her hand threw only a faint
light into the impenetrable darkness.
"The right way? " Repeated her Eyron behind
her dryly. "I think the right way would be to stay
at home and not let old legends drive us to our
deaths."
"Or she's leading us into a trap," he murmured,
but he said it quietly, as if he didn't really want
to convince anyone.
Mira stopped and turned to the others. "Stop it,"
she said firmly. Her voice cut through the
silence of the night. "We're all tired, but we
knew from the beginning that it wouldn't be
easy. The lake is close. We have to persevere."
9
Mira lowered her head and nodded. "It just feels
wrong, you know? This place does not welcome
us."
Clara put a hand on Mira's shoulder. "That's
exactly why we have to be here. Sometimes we
find the truth in the places we are afraid of."
Chapter 2 Return of the Guardians
A cold gust of wind made Mira shiver as she
stood in front of the dark cave entrance together
with Clara and Eyron. The night lay heavy over
the forest, the lake behind them seemed silent
and eerie, as if it were holding its breath. The
fog meandered eerily across the damp ground,
and a barely audible whisper came from inside
the cave.
Mira held on to the old ring. It was a last hint
from Lea. The grandmother's legends about the
"guardians" could not get Mira out of her head.
Had they returned?
"Should we really do that?" whispered Clara,
looking nervously into the darkness.
10
Eyron stepped forward, determined. "We cannot
turn back. We have to find Lea."
Mira felt an alien energy since the discovery of
the ring. Without hesitation, she stepped into the
cave.
Clara and Mira were in a dark environment. The
air was damp and cold, the ground uneven.
There was a continuous whisper that seemed to
come from all directions. Clara reached for
Mira's hand, which felt cold.
The ring in Mira's hand began to glow. The light
illuminated the walls and showed symbols in the
stone. Eryon looked closer and noticed that the
signs represented a story.
Mira touched one of the symbols, whereupon the
ground began to vibrate and a sound was heard.
A voice said that the seal had been broken and
the guards would return.
11
A violent blast of air swept through the cave,
stirring up dust and bringing the shadows on the
walls to life. In front of them, shadowy figures
were formed, born of light and darkness. The
Guardians. Mira felt her heartbeat quickening.
Were they here to help or to stop them?
Return of the Guardians The Path of
Shadows
A cold breeze touched Mira's skin as the steps in
front of her disappeared. The purple portal
seemed to be active. The guards stood still and
their eyes were fixed on them.
"You are on the path of shadows." The voice
was present. A breeze moved Mira's hair, it was
12
no ordinary wind. He carried a faint noise with
him.
"Don't go any further, Mira... stay with me "
Leah. The voice sounded familiar.
Mira turned around. The cave looked different.
The walls were now smooth, black, and shiny
like obsidian. Shadows moved on it. Clara and
Eyron seemed tense. Clara held the ring tightly
while Eyron carefully touched the dark wall.
"This is no longer just a cave," he murmured. It's
a threshold."
Mira knew he was right. Suddenly, the ground
began to shake under her feet. A soft crunch
echoed through the air. The darkness emerged
from the crack, a black mist that moved towards
the group. Mira stepped back, but something
grabbed her ankle and pulled her down. Clara's
hand snapped forward, but her fingers didn't
reach anything. The fog swallowed Mira. Eyron
tried to hold on to her, but he couldn't. The last
thing she heard was Clara's call and Eyron's
curse. Then it became quiet and dark.
13
"She fell through an endless tunnel of shadows,
flashes of light flickered around her, distorted
images, memories that were not hers. " A child
crying in a cave. A guardian with broken wings.
A lake in which a dark star was reflected.
Then an impact.
Mira hit the cold stone hard. Her body trembled,
but she was alive. When she sat up, she felt it
immediately.
She was not alone.
In front of her stood a figure. Tall, wrapped in a
cloak of shadow, with a face formed of darkness
and two glowing eyes shining in deep blue.
"You have entered the Path of Shadows, Mira."
The voice was deep, ancient, it held in its bones.
"Are you willing to make the sacrifice?"
Return of the Guardians The
Guardian of the Shadow
Mira couldn't get the shadow man's words out of
her head. The Guardian of the Shadow. "Who
was this mysterious guardian whose eyes shone
14
in deep blue, and why was he so important for
the transition between the worlds?
The fog around her had cleared in the meantime,
and she was back on the shore of the lake. But
the place no longer seemed like before, the
darkness was denser, as if the world itself was
swallowed up a little more. The lake lay still, the
black water no longer reflected the sky, but
shimmered in eerie tones, as if it hid secrets that
lay dormant in itself.
Clara stood next to Mira and looked at her with a
mixture of concern and determination.
Mira took a deep breath and told her about the
Guardian of the Shadow, about the mysterious
connection between the worlds and the secret
rites of the Guardians. "He's the key. Without
him, everything collapses. But I don't know if I
can find him, or what he wants from me."
Eyron, who was standing nearby and listening
attentively, now stepped closer. "There are old
stories about the Guardian."
Mira looked at him questioningly. "Tell me
more."
15
Eyron looked at the ground and began to speak
as if a distant memory had caught up with him.
"The Guardian is not always human. Sometimes
it is created by the shadows themselves to
maintain balance. But there are also reports that
he was once a guard who refused to enter the
crossing. He is the last one who knows the secret
of the Guardians' Covenant. He can overlook the
worlds and decide on the path of fate."
Mira could feel the weight of his words. "And
what happens if he is not found?"
Eyron hesitated. "The balance is disturbed. The
worlds begin to mix. The veil between
dimensions falls and opens doors that are better
left closed."
Mira knew that time was pressing. If the
Guardian was the key, then she had to find him
before it was too late.
"Where could we find him?" she asked, more to
herself than to the others.
"There's only one place where he keeps popping
up," Eyron said in a gloomy voice. "The Forest
of the Forgotten. A place that no one ever enters
16
without knowing what they are looking for. The
Guardian himself watches there, hidden in the
deepest shadows."
Mira felt the pull of fate. "The Forest of the
Forgotten" It sounded like a myth, like a legend
that no one had really believed anymore. But
now it seemed as if the forest was coming to life,
as if it was calling her.
"We have to prepare," Clara said resolutely.
"When we go there, we don't know what to
expect."
Mira nodded and knew that the path she chose
now would change everything. She couldn't go
back, not now that the truth raised more
questions than answers.
She gathered her things and set off with Clara
and Eyron. The Forest of the Forgotten lay
beyond the known world, beyond the path they
had ever trodden.
The forest was a place of which only dark stories
existed. Some said it was permeated by the souls
of the lost. Others claimed that it was a mirror of
their own fears and desires. But for Mira, he was
17
the only way to find the Guardian and solve the
mystery that surrounded her.
The sky became more and more cloudy, clouds
came up, as if nature itself held its breath. The
forest was still far away, but Mira could feel the
urge to move on.
As they approached the forest, it was as if the air
was getting thicker. The wind bore a strange
crackle, a whisper of long-forgotten secrets.
Mira paused and turned to Clara and Eyron.
"What if we go into the woods and never come
out again?"
Clara looked at her seriously. "Then we have to
make sure we know why we're leaving. And
what we want to find there."
Eyron nodded. "We are not leaving without a
plan. But we must not allow the darkness to
swallow us up. "Mira knew that the moment had
come. The Forest of the Forgotten awaited. The
18
Keeper of the Shadow was waiting. And she was
ready to face him , whatever it meant.
Chapter 3: The Forest of the
Forgotten
The wind had stopped blowing. The world
seemed to stand still as Mira, Clara and Eyron
stood before the border of the Forest of the
Forgotten. The trees rose like huge shadows into
the night sky, their branches looking like bony
fingers grasping at them. Not a sound was heard,
not even the chirping of insects or the rustling of
leaves." That feels wrong" Clara pulled her
jacket tighter around her, shivering. "It's as if the
forest is breathing, watching us." Mira nodded,
her eyes scanning the darkness. She felt a
strange presence, a tingling in the air. Something
was waiting here or someone." We have to move
19
on," Eyron said in a firm voice. "The Guardian is
here somewhere. And we don't have much time."
They stepped over the invisible border into the
forest. As soon as they had taken their first steps,
the fog closed behind them. The way they had
come had disappeared. There was no turning
back.
The voices of the forest
The deeper they went into the forest, the heavier
the air became. The darkness wasn't just
shadows, it was almost tangible, as if it was
shaped by an unknown force. Then Mira heard
it. A whisper. At first quiet, barely perceptible,
but then it became clearer. A voice that came
from the depths of the forest whispered her
name." Mira: "Mira froze. Her throat became
dry. She knew that voice.Lea. Without thinking,
she ran." Mira, wait!" Clara called after her, but
Mira didn't stop. The whispering became louder,
more urgent." Help me "Mira stumbled over
roots, her hands gripping the damp moss as she
staggered further forward. The darkness was
now almost complete when she finally stopped.
20
In front of her lay a small, black lake. The water
did not move as if it were made of dark glass.
And in the middle of this ghostly mirror she saw
a face.Lea's face. Her eyes were wide open, as if
she could see out from the depths. Her mouth
formed silent words. Then a hand reached out of
the water for Mira.
The Guardian's Awakening
Mira screamed and stumbled back. The water of
the lake rippled, dark waves swept onto the
shore, and the air became icy.
Behind her, she heard Eyron and Clara finally
catching up.
"What is that?" Clara gasped when she saw the
water. But before anyone could say anything, the
21
darkness began to form. The fog contracted as if
it were directed by invisible force. Slowly he
took shape on a tall, gloomy figure, whose eyes
shone in cold blue.
The Keeper of the Shadow had
awakened.
