Pete's garage had seen a surge in clientele ever since he’d hired a new mechanic. What was more surprising was that Carlos hardly knew anything about cars. He’d appear clueless and stumble over his words in an effort to explain something to his clients.
The number of mistakes Carlos made on any given day was mind blowing. It was a miracle Pete still hadn’t fired him. However, this was mostly because he brought in more money than he lost.
Carlos was a very attractive man with dark skin, long brown silky curls that fell to his shoulder, a chiselled jaw, honey coloured eyes and an athletic physique. Given that they lived in a small town where everyone knew everyone, it was always a good thing when a different person came to town. Especially one as handsome as Carlos.
A majority of Pete’s new clients were women and sometimes even a few men who were eager for a piece of his new mechanic. While Pete, an old fashioned man, did not approve of this blatant display of lust, his business minded self could not get over his profits. Just today ten women had driven in claiming that their vehicles were in bad shape. While this was certainly not the truth, he still administered to them and even let them spend a little time with Carlos to encourage them to come back again.
Pete couldn’t tell if Carlos liked the attention he was getting. For the most part he seemed unreceptive to it. He seemed more interested in learning how to be a good mechanic.
Pete could see how a handsome man like Carlos was so unresponsive to women’s attention. He had probably gotten so used to them throwing themselves at him that he couldn’t be bothered anymore.
His indifference coupled with the mystery of his origin only made the women more persistent. They would leave him their numbers and the more daring would even leave their underwear.
Pete liked that Carlos was more committed to learning about his job than chasing after the girls. It showed that the man knew what was more important in life. These women would after some time lose interest in him( though at this rate this did not seem very likely). However, if he kept working on his craft, he would always be able to take care of himself.
Despite his lack of interest in accepting women’s advances, Pete knew that once in a while, Carlos didn’t mind taking advantage of his opportunities. He’d already gotten into bed with some of the most attractive women in town. Sometimes even in the cars that he was supposed to repair.
This didn’t bother Pete at all. As long as he kept bringing him more clients, he was willing to stomach anything. Fortunately for him, Carlos was starting to learn a few things. He’d come a long way from completely hopeless to almost mediocre.
