This book is a work of fiction and any resemblance to persons, living or dead, or places, events or locales is purely coincidental.

It is intended only for adults over the age of 18 and all characters are represented as 18 or over.

It had been three hours and Philip still couldn’t get over how nervous he was. He had an appointment with his boss in about half an hour and did not know what it was about. Normally, this would never have been an issue but with the layoffs they’d been having at the office, he couldn’t help but feel worried.

Philip had tried to go over what he would do if he lost his job and could come up with nothing. He’d given five years of his life to this company. The idea that he could lose it all in the next hour was terrifying.

“Why am I getting ahead of myself. As far as I know, it could be a promotion,” he said to try and convince himself to calm down.

This didn’t seem to work. In fact it made him even more nervous when he realized that the chances of him getting promoted were close to none.

It wasn’t that Philip was not good at his job. The various promotions he had seen over the years were proof that he was as good as anyone. However, after his mother had gotten diagnosed with cancer, Phillip’s performance had suffered greatly.

He couldn’t get himself to focus on work knowing that he had his mother to take care of. He started to show up late for work as he had to see to his mother before he came to work.

Philip had hoped that no one would notice his decline in performing but that would be hoping for too much. He had a feeling that this was why the boss had summoned him to his office.
