Understanding the Anointing is a must-read book! The first thing Jesus declared when He started ministry was that the Spirit of God was upon Him. He went further to say that the same Spirit of God anointed Him to preach the gospel to the poor; to heal the broken-hearted and to preach deliverance to the captives. It was such an enormous assignment, and it was only possible by the anointing that came upon His life. The anointing is not a philosophical, theological, or psychological idea, but the Holy Spirit and His presence in manifestation. In this book, we will look deeply at the anointing for our spiritual enlightenment and empowerment.

We live in a dispensation of time where evil is escalating. It is a perilous time because evil has now become good and good has become evil. (Isaiah 5:20). Hence, the need for you and me to walk in the anointing of God. However, it is impossible to walk in the anointing of the Holy Spirit without a sufficient understanding of what it is. With spiritual understanding comes spiritual empowerment and elevation. Even before we talk about the anointing, we must understand what it is with the help of the Holy Spirit. Some Christians don’t care whether they understand it!

Mandate

God once said to me, “Go! I’m sending you like I sent Moses, my prophet to liberate my people from all oppressions of the devil through the preaching and teaching of the Word of Faith. Raise the foundations of many generations, prophesy over them and school them into supernatural knowledge, wisdom, and exploits; impart into them my power and wisdom; release them into their glorious and unparalleled destinies.”

Introduction

We live in a dispensation of time where evil is escalating. I believe it is a perilous time because evil has now become good and good has become evil (Isaiah 5:20). Hence, the need for us to walk in the anointing of the Holy Spirit. However, it is impossible to walk in the anointing without having a sufficient understanding of what it is. With spiritual understanding comes spiritual empowerment and elevation. By the way, before we even talk about the anointing, we must first understand what it is with the help of the Holy Spirit. The level at which you benefit from the treasures of God’s Kingdom is determined by your spiritual understanding.

The first thing Jesus declared when He started ministry was that the Spirit of the Lord was upon Him. He went further to say that the same Spirit of God anointed Him to preach the gospel to the poor; to heal the broken-hearted and to preach deliverance to the captives. It was such an enormous assignment, and it was only possible by the anointing of the Holy Spirit that was upon Him. The anointing of God is not a philosophical, theological, or psychological concept. Instead, it is the very presence of God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. In this book, we are going to look at the anointing for our spiritual equipment.

Luke 4:18-21

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

I believe Jesus closed the book in the above Scripture because there was nothing else to talk about apart from the anointing. Saints, your spiritual command in the spiritual realm is also a function of the anointing of the Holy Spirit upon your life. Hence, wherever Jesus went, even trees heard and obeyed Him because of the anointing that was upon Him. When you don’t have the anointing in your life, life becomes a burden instead of a flight. It becomes a liability instead of an asset—a negative instead of a positive! Besides, to walk in God’s power, you need the anointing of the Holy Spirit. I have seen what the anointing can do in my life. With the anointing of God in your life, you can ascend any height of your destiny in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 92:10-14

But my horn You have exalted like a wild ox; I have been Anointed with fresh oil. My eye also has seen my desire on my enemies; My ears hear my desire on the wicked Who rise up Against me. The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those who are planted in the house of the Lord Shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing.

I pray and declare that after you finish reading this book, your spiritual life will go to another level. You will walk in spiritual understanding, empowerment, and elevation in Christ Jesus. Besides, you will move from spiritual darkness to spiritual light and revelation. Then, above all, you will see the goodness of God in Christ Jesus. And no devil or demon will ever stand in your way to stop your destiny, in Jesus’ name. God bless you!!

Chapter One

What is the Anointing?

Isaiah 61:1-3

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”

The Dictionary Meaning

According to the dictionary, the word anointing encompasses the following meanings:

(i). Anointing is the ritual act of pouring aromatic oil over a person’s head or entire body. By extension, the term is also applied to related acts of sprinkling, dousing, or smearing a person or object with any perfumed oil, milk, butter, or other fat.

(ii). It also means to smear or rub with oil, typically as part of a religious ceremony. “High priests were anointed with oil.”

(iii). It further means to ceremonially confer divine or holy office upon (a priest or monarch) by smearing or rubbing with oil.

The dictionary meanings of the word anointing described above are not incorrect, but they are incomplete. Why? That is because the anointing of God is more than just rubbing or smearing yourself with oil, butter, or milk. Apart from that, there can’t be an anointing without the Holy Spirit in our lives. In every aspect, the Bible’s interpretation or definition of the anointing is more profound than the dictionary’s definition.

The Biblical Meaning

(i). The anointing is the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer. It enables the believer to understand, apply, and administer spiritual truth.

(ii). The anointing is the manifest presence of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer.

(iii). The anointing is the power of God in manifestation.

(iv) The anointing is a spiritual endowment from above for our spiritual empowerment.

The Anointing Explained

The word anointing is most of the time misused in some churches or among Christians. It is essential to have a thorough understanding of what the anointing is in the body of Christ Jesus. Some Christians, when they feel a movement in their body, may allude that to the anointing. While others may feel the anointing just in spoken words. I believe there are no ironclad rules to the way the anointing of God may manifest in the lives of people. However, one thing we need to know is that the anointing is not a feeling—it is more than feelings! Some pastors minister healing, sensing nothing. Yet, the blind people see in their meetings.

Before I minister healing to people, I often feel the anointing come upon me. For example, many years ago, I went to visit a family that needed prayers and divine intervention. So, while I was in the house ministering, there was a young woman who was in the house sleeping because she was sick. Then, I asked them where she was, and they said that she was in her bedroom, not feeling well. She had a terrible stomach condition for a long time. Hence, that night, she did not even go to work because of the same satanic affliction. Well, I asked them to call her to come and be part of the meeting within the house.

When she came in, I asked her what the problem was, and she told me the entire story. With no time, I got filled with compassion in my heart. Then, without wasting time, I asked her if she could lift her hands to the Lord. Now, before I prayed for her, there was a manifest presence of the Holy Spirit that came upon me like a blanket. I knew that was the healing anointing. Then, as soon as I laid my hands on her stomach, that condition stopped and disappeared from her body completely. What happened? Jesus healed her right there and then. That is one example of the anointing of God in manifestations with tangible effects.

Luke 5:17

Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
