I have no problem wrapping men around my finger, but as it turns out, big red aliens fall into a different category. After Voxen saves me from freezing to death, I show my appreciation in the only way I can think of at that moment. It's just supposed to be a bit of harmless fun for both of us. However, Voxen seems to be unfamiliar with the concept of "just for fun." He only knows "forever"... Dark sci-fi romance with a Christmas theme. Over the top and utterly ridiculous. Contains holiday lights, candy canes, and a happy ending in front of a fireplace.

A TEDOLERAN IN THE SNOW

I have no problem wrapping men around my finger, but as it turns out, big red aliens fall into a different category. After Voxen saves me from freezing to death, I show my appreciation in the only way I can think of at that moment.

It's just supposed to be a bit of harmless fun for both of us. However, Voxen seems to be unfamiliar with the concept of "just for fun." He only knows "forever"...

Dark sci-fi romance with a Christmas theme. Over the top and utterly ridiculous. Contains holiday lights, candy canes, and a happy ending in front of a fireplace.

PROLOGUE

TAYLOR

My heart was pounding. This could not be happening. Just a moment ago, there had been four of us, and now I was standing alone in the snow next to the car. I felt like this was all my fault, but I had just wanted to take a selfie to keep Marcos away from me.

I wished I could turn back time. Not just by a few minutes so that Harry, Jen, and Isla were back here, but by several weeks. I should have quit the minute my old boss "disappeared" and Marcos showed up with his people.

When Harry had called and announced the impromptu Christmas trip, I had nearly burst into tears with relief. I had spent the entire trip so far fervently wishing I didn't have to go home again. However, what I had in mind was something more like a never-ending Christmas with my girlfriends, not freezing to death alone in the middle of Colorado's wilderness.

"Isla? Isla, can you hear me?" My voice was shaking, and I was fighting tears. "Jen? Harry?"

Although I didn't really expect to get an answer, the silence that met my ears upset me even further.

I pulled my phone out of my jacket pocket. Instagram was still open, and my reception had been just good enough to post the picture we'd taken. The irony didn't escape me. I would have loved to throw the thing on the floor and step on it, but I still needed it to call for help—as soon as I found reception again.

I cautiously stepped up to the precipice and looked over the cliff. Isla had walked away on her own two legs, while Jen and Harry had fallen. I figured I should try to climb down because they probably needed help more urgently than Isla.

I trained in pole dance for two hours a day, not to mention my evening performances and videos for Instagram—if any of us had the upper body strength to climb down there, it was me.

I looked around to see if there were any vehicles approaching who may be able to help, but I was still alone. I quickly blinked back the tears, squatted down, and thought about how best to approach the dangerous descent.

VOXEN

I knew I couldn't badger Copid into opening up, but today his behavior was downright odd, even for him.

While pretending to grapple with the ingredients for these Christmas cookies, I watched my friend out of the corner of my eye. He looked as if he hadn't slept, and he scowled as he whittled away at a piece of wood—an unusual activity for him and one he wasn't particularly good at either.

I tore open the plastic bag with the "vanilla bean" and pulled out the black piece of plant. To me, it looked more like a worm, and the fact that humans were cutting open this elongated piece and scraping out the insides didn't help that impression. But that's exactly what the recipe said, and that's how I would do it. Apart from that, I had no better pastime here on earth anyway.

As he had a few times before, Copid paused, looked up, opened his mouth, and appeared as if he wanted to say something before huffing and returning to his carving.

Maybe it was just me, but the mood in our Christmas village was more than tense. Dashar was disappointed that none of us shared his enthusiasm for this mission. To us, it felt more like we had been banished here by the Tedoleran government to prevent an attack on Earth that might never happen. We were stuck here indefinitely, and Pranzor, in particular, was getting tired of the prospect.

I was frustrated because the only interesting part of this mission for me was the human women, but our instructions were very strict about that. Under no circumstances were we allowed to approach them.

And Copid? It was impossible to tell what was going on inside him. It was clear that something was bothering him, but what it was, I could only guess.

He had arrived barely half an hour ago, wordlessly pushed open the door, and stomped in. After staring at me for almost two minutes, he had taken to squatting in front of the fireplace and stewing in icy silence.

I didn't mind his company, but it would have been nice to talk.

With the tip of the knife, I divided the vanilla bean down the middle and was glad that it did not wriggle. It began to seem possible that this was actually a plant and not an animal. When one had traveled as many galaxies as I had, one became cautious when it came to the food of other creatures.

The timer I had set for the cookies in the oven rang. I still wasn't sure whether to find the way humans prepared their food old-fashioned or charming. I eyed the tray through the glass window. Had I set it at the right temperature? It was all so cumbersome.

There was a knock on the door of my cabin, which could only mean that Dashar was outside. Pranzor would not have knocked, just like Copid, and the latter was already here.

"Come in, my friend, come in."

Hopefully, Dashar was in a better mood than Copid. I opened the oven door, found the pastry too pale, and closed it again before standing up. "Hey, friend. I've had a go at making cookies too... Is that a human?"

I was blown away. What a pretty specimen Dashar had with him! It took me a moment to sort through all the questions that came to mind at the sight of her.

Copid was frozen and did not avert his gaze from her, but he seemed nervous to me instead of curious.

When I put my hands on my hips and thought about what I should ask Dashar first, the woman shyly raised one of her small hands. How small and thin her fingers were!

"Um, hi," she said before looking directly at my friend as if she needed to make sure she hadn't done anything wrong.

Dashar smiled encouragingly at her and then nodded in my direction. "Yes, this is Jennifer. She got lost and separated from her friends. We were going to go look for them now and could use your help."

That was the best news I had heard in days. Not that the women were in distress, of course, but that there was finally something to be done. I wanted to show my agreement, but my mouth was much faster than my mind. "Of course. More women? Can I have my own, too? Do they all smell as good as yours?"

An adorable blush spread across Jennifer's cheeks, and she crossed her arms. "I don't belong to anyone."

Didn't she know how small and helpless she was? That she needed a protector? I sought Dashar's gaze, and he merely rolled his eyes and waved it off. Apparently, it took the human woman a while to realize the consequences of having sex with my friend—even from here, I could sense that she smelled like him.

For the first time since he had entered my cabin, Copid spoke up. "What did Pranzor say?"

Dashar shrugged his shoulders. "He was... as usual. However, he already left for the forest last night—probably to look for the women."
