I need credits and I need them fast. That's why I'm responding to an obscure ad that offers a generous reward for what should be simple work. For the amount of credits offered, I would be willing to do just about anything. So, when a rich and powerful cyborg asks me to travel to an ice planet and convince his son to come back home, I immediately agree. It can't be that hard, can it? "Her Mountain Cyborg" contains a lot of snow, a few dangerous predators, and a possessive cyborg who will never let his curvy beloved out of his sight again. Our heroine thinks she still has a say in the matter. (Spoiler: She doesn't.)

HER MOUNTAIN CYBORG

I need credits and I need them fast. That's why I'm responding to an obscure ad that offers a generous reward for what should be simple work. For the amount of credits offered, I would be willing to do just about anything.

EVERLEIGH

My stomach shrank when I saw the countless gorgeous women. Pretty much every species and race was represented, and my hopes of scoring this job melted like a snowman in the sun in the face of the stunningly attractive competition. I sighed, as I had been thinking my chances of landing this job were good since the ad had been placed on a rather obscure platform. As it was, I was quite wrong.

By all heavens! I felt like the ugly duckling at a beauty pageant for swans. Every single one of the women looked like a supermodel. I saw nothing but big breasts, narrow waists, and long legs. Since I was comparatively short, I definitely stood out among all these graceful beauties. It was obvious that I did not belong here.

I bit my lower lip and turned to leave before I embarrassed myself. Either I had the wrong address, or I’d completely misunderstood the ad. Apparently, a fashion model was wanted, and even though I wasn’t ugly, "slim" was not one of my attributes.

When I turned around, I almost collided with a cyborg who was eyeing me with piqued interest.

"Miss." He bowed slightly and handed me a thin tablet, one of the very new glass models that cost more than I could possibly earn in a year. "Please complete the test. If you pass, you may proceed to the garden."

At this point, I hadn't even made it onto the property. I was still in the driveway, clutching my worn handbag and staring up at the villa I could just barely get a glimpse of in the distance. The large and well-secured gate was closed while the garden inside was crowded with women.

What exactly was this job about? The ad hadn't revealed much, and I had obviously completely misinterpreted the bits that had been mentioned. I had thought it was a cleaning job, in which I would be sent from one planet to the next to clean the various vacation homes of a wealthy family. But the whole thing here looked more like some type of casting. Really strange.

I should probably have given the tablet back to the cyborg before I accidentally dropped it and had to pay for the damage. I was already broke, and I'm quite sure it would take me all of eternity to pay off the tablet.

As I looked around for the cyborg who had moved on to hand out more tablets to the newly arrived women, I noticed the rather easy question on the display. Who didn't know which three languages were spoken on New Choce?

"Ugh, this is way too difficult," the woman next to me complained. "Let's go home."

I squinted at her long slender legs, which were completely covered with beautiful red scales that glistened in the sun when she moved. She tapped impatiently on the tablet's display with her long claws and gave her friend a pouty look.

The quiz was anything but difficult. It was downright ridiculously easy. It took me less than three minutes to answer all ten questions, and when I was done, the tablet started playing a bright tune and lit up green. I looked up and noticed that almost all the tablets around me were glowing red and that the other women were looking at me as if I had done something illegal.

The cyborg returned and seemed just as irritated as the other women. I suddenly felt as if I were in enemy territory with a target on my forehead. When the cyborg reached out, I handed him the tablet. He raised an eyebrow. "Ten points? You didn't make a single mistake?"

"How is that even possible?" A pretty blonde crossed her arms in front of her big breasts, for which she surely paid a lot of credits. "Did you cheat? The questions are so hard!"

Her friend, a beautiful tigress from Terridine, laughed viciously. "She's probably had plenty of time to learn. I mean—look at her. I'm sure she doesn't waste her evenings on dates and men."

Blood rushed to my cheeks, the humiliation killing me. It took me a moment to compose myself and lift my chin. However, while I was still searching for a clever response to her nasty comment, the cyborg snapped his fingers. "Don't worry, miss," he said to me. "Security will escort these spiteful bitches off the premises immediately. If you would follow me."

I could hardly believe that he had called the women bitches, because his suit, pressed to perfection, and his obdurate attitude gave a different impression. He reminded me of the butlers they had had on Earth in the old days.

My heart beat faster as the gate opened for me. The cyborg led the way, and I felt uncomfortable as we passed almost all the women waiting in the garden. They seemed to be waiting in a series of different lines while the cyborg led me directly to the stairs and pointed to the front door at the top.

Another cyborg was talking to a woman who had blue wings on her back. "Eight points? This way, please."

I was led into the house, and I ignored, as well as I could, the incredulous faces of the waiting people. I could feel the question hovering in the air: Why was the fat one allowed to go into the house while all the supermodels were left standing outside in the garden?

The feeling was all too familiar, and I bit the tip of my tongue to keep from crying. The cyborg took me to a set of smooth black double doors, which he opened immediately. The room was huge, and the echoing of our footsteps accompanied us as we walked toward the long table. A man sat at the head of the table and barely glanced in our direction.

"Sir, this is human Everleigh Wright. She scored a ten on the first test."

This caught his attention, and he raised his eyes. His face was breathtakingly attractive. So beautiful that I could hardly look at him. I noticed that his left iris looked unusual, which told me that he was probably a cyborg too. Unlike the butler, his skin was the same color as mine and did not shine silver.

We humans used to think that cyborgs would be these insane robots and perfect machines, but in reality, their development never got that far. If you create something that is smarter, faster, and stronger than you, sooner or later it will turn against its creator.

The days of war between humans and cyborgs were long gone, and yet many people were still afraid of cyborgs. I didn't care. I found it highly interesting how the perfect symbiosis of man and machine had been created. Their eyes were too weak? Then they had new ones put in. The spine was broken in an accident? No problem. The replacement was ready to go. Someone suffered from epilepsy? A simple implant in the brain provided a remedy.

However, those benefits only applied to cyborgs. After all that humans had done to them before and during the war, most cyborgs were not particularly keen on interacting with us, let alone sharing their technological achievements.

"Everleigh Wright. You answered the ad?" His voice was so deep and growly that I curled my toes in my old boots.

"Yes, I did." Great. I sounded like a breathless teenager.

To be fair, he was incredibly good-looking, although I admittedly have a weakness for black hair and blue eyes. When he stood up, I involuntarily took a step back because he was so tall, which made him quite intimidating. Unlike the clerk who had led me here, he wore black pants and a plain white shirt that nevertheless looked expensive. He didn't need frills or other adornments to attract attention, though. "Follow me then, Everleigh."

The other cyborg disappeared, and I followed my handsome host to the next door. "My name is Charruss, but you can call me Charr if you like."
