MONSTERS EVERYWHERE I LOOK

How about next time I don’t kidnap my victim from a poorly lit alley in the middle of the night. Maybe then I won’t accidentally take the wrong woman. I wanted Audrey. My Audrey.

Instead, I’m now stuck with Eirene, the very definition of a thorn in my side. She is stubborn, knows an alarming amount of curse words, and doesn’t hold back with her opinions about me.

There’s a chance for me to trade Eirene for Audrey, but somehow I don’t want to let her go yet...

This is a spicy dark romance novella containing violence, cursing, and a HEA.

CHAPTER1

GABRIEL

Audrey was sitting at her usual table, staring off into space, lost in thought. She didn’t even look when the screen of her cell phone lit up, lying next to her empty cocktail glass. A Grasshopper, like every night from Monday to Saturday. Audrey only stayed away from the Dead Man’s Anchor on Sundays.

I realized I had been polishing the same glass for what seemed like an eternity and forced myself to put it away. Maybe it was time to listen to my buddy Lewis and just approach Audrey.

Since the bar wasn’t busy right now anyway, no one would miss me if I left my post behind the counter for three or four minutes so I could ask Audrey out.

It was ridiculous the way I was acting. Yes, she was breathtakingly beautiful, but it couldn’t be right that I had less inhibitions about pulling the trigger of a gun than I did about talking to her.

I straightened my shirt and the suit vest I was wearing before running my hand through my hair. I was hardly able to resist the urge to breathe into my hand to check my breath. Having a distinct weakness for peppermint candies, I knew my breath couldn’t smell bad. And with my luck, Audrey would look up the moment I sniffed my own palm. I could safely spare myself that kind of embarrassment.

She didn’t look up until I was practically standing right in front of her table, and I promptly got lost in her pretty bluish-green eyes.

Audrey was just pure perfection with her doll face, alluring curves, and endless legs. Today she wore her red hair loose, falling in airy waves to her shoulders. The dark makeup made her eyes sparkle, and her lips shone seductively. I had to pull myself together so as to not reach out and trace the neckline of her dress. The black fabric clung to her full tits that practically begged for my touch.

“Hi,” I said, having finally gotten my brain back to work.

“Hello, Gabriel.” Her smile seemed forced, and I wondered, not for the first time, why Audrey came here every night, waited for a different man every night, and usually sent him away before her glass was even empty. Afterward, she stared into nothingness until she left the bar.

I had been watching her for months, wondering why she was behaving this way when it clearly gave her no pleasure.

To have an excuse, I leaned over and took her empty glass. “Would you like another?”

“No, thanks.” She tapped the screen of her phone, and with the brief movement, her tits jiggled invitingly. “I think I’m going to head out right now.”

“No luck again?”

Audrey shook her head.

“Could it be that somehow you always pick the wrong men?”

For a moment she stared at the tabletop before looking up at me. “What do you want, Gabriel?”

“You could go out with me.”

“No.” Her answer came so quickly that it was basically an insult.

Although I had expected her rejection, anger flared up inside me. “Why not? You can’t seriously tell me that you enjoy sitting here every night and sending guy after guy away.”

“It’s none of your business what I do.” She stood up, picked up her purse, and jutted her chin. “Leave me alone, Gabriel.”

I knew I shouldn’t, but I could no longer control myself. As Audrey rushed past me, her delicate perfume tickling my nose, I grabbed her upper arm.

I stepped closer to her. “It’s only a matter of time before you anger the wrong man, Audrey. I can’t count how many tantrums I’ve witnessed because men don’t appreciate you calling them over and sending them away right after the first glimpse of them. How long do you think that will last? How long before the first one ambushes you outside the door?”

Her delicate throat moved as she swallowed hard. “Let go of me! You’re hurting me.”

I noticed how quietly she spoke, even though we were standing in a reasonably crowded bar. If she had raised her voice, someone would certainly have come to her aid.

“I’m not even trying to cause you pain. How much do you think a man with bad intentions would hurt you?”

Her eyes widened. “You’re scaring me, Gabriel.”

“Then stop playing this game, Audrey.” I let go of her and took another step back. “And go out with me.”

“I can’t.” That’s all she said before turning and strutting out on her high heels. Her hips swayed invitingly from side to side and Barney, one of our regulars well into his seventies, looked after her, little hearts in his eyes—as he did every night.

I clenched a fist. My conscience was soothed because I’d at least tried to talk to her before putting my actual plan into action.

It was wrong, depraved, and wicked, but I didn’t know how else to get Audrey to finally see that she was acting recklessly.

I would ambush her, scare her, and once she understood how negligent she was behaving, she would accept my offer and we would go out.

Audrey just had to understand that we were perfect for each other.

CHAPTER2

EIRENE

I shivered in the short skirt that probably hadn’t been the best choice for this cold night, but I also hadn’t counted on standing around for an eternity outside this rundown rat hole while I waited for Audrey.

As I wrapped my arms around myself, wishing I had put on my coat rather than the skimpy leather jacket, I glanced over my shoulder. The door to Dead Man’s Anchor was closed, the neon sign above the entrance buzzing softly and flickering at regular intervals. Audrey really had to stop punishing herself. No matter what my best friend did, she wouldn’t be able to change the past.

As I sighed, my breath condensed in front of my lips. With a curse, I glanced at my slim gold Cartier watch, the gift of a rich fan. Audrey had been overdue for more than fifteen minutes, which was not the world’s greatest tardiness in my opinion, but it wasn’t like her.

My cell phone vibrated in the small purse I had with me, and I pulled it out, hoping to see Audrey’s name on the screen. I had already glanced inside and, considering the sinister-looking bartender, had decided to wait out here.

Unfortunately, the message was from one of my little piggies, as I affectionately called my viewers. This particular piggy was a superfan and offered me two hundred dollars for a quick photo.

I pondered his request. So far Audrey wasn’t here and it wouldn’t even take a whole minute to snap a quick pic, which was easy money.

Since there was a narrow alley right next to the Dead Man’s Anchor, my decision was made in a second. I would take the photo and then call Audrey. I was really surprised that I hadn’t heard from her yet.

I straightened my shoulders and let my gaze roam the street, checking to make sure I was alone and no one was watching, before diving into the narrow alley.

The end was blocked with a high chain-link fence, but I just needed an undisturbed corner.

I ignored the stench of the garbage cans and propped myself up against the wall of the house with one hand while I took off my panties with the other. Looking for the right pose to send a photo of my pussy to my little pig, I briefly tucked my panties into the pocket of my leather jacket and opened the camera app on my phone. Should I bend one leg? That always went over well. Maybe I could bring the wall into the frame so that it was clear I was outside, which would certainly turn my fan on.

Before I tested the angle, I was grabbed from behind. The cell phone fell from my hand as I panicked and groped for the arm that was around my throat, exerting more pressure with each passing second.

I stumbled on my high heels and scraped my fingernails over a muscular arm, but my strength waned alarmingly quickly.

My gasp at feeling a sharp pain on my neck went unheard. Panic set in as I slipped into unconsciousness.

CHAPTER3

GABRIEL

I put Audrey down on the bed and switched on the light. When I turned to her again, my gaze was magically drawn to her bare legs. I hadn’t seen her in such a short skirt before, and the leather jacket was also new.

I stepped closer to the bed and frowned, not sure if my mind was playing tricks on me. Audrey didn’t move when I grabbed her chin and turned her face in my direction. Something was different.

Slowly, I examined her from top to bottom, turning her head from side to side. Had I lost it? Audrey’s face seemed a touch slimmer to me, her lower jaw was not quite as pronounced, and the strands of hair that usually fell into her eyes had grown a good four inches overnight.

No. That was…impossible.

There was a logical explanation—I had only ever admired Audrey from a distance in the twilight of the bar. Of course she looked a bit different up close. Right?

Since it wouldn’t be long before she woke up, I pulled the chair up to the bed and put the rope within reach, just to be on the safe side. I assumed that Audrey wouldn’t exactly be happy when she woke, but I would find out how pissed off she actually was quite soon.

I hoped that I had scared her enough with my little attack that she realized how reckless she was behaving.

After a couple of minutes, Audrey began to stir and moaned softly. The sound was...quite appealing, and I had to pull myself together to stick to my plan. I just wanted to talk to her, not fuck her brains out. At least not right now.

Audrey’s eyes snapped open. It took her a moment to realize she wasn’t staring at a familiar ceiling before she sat up.
