Beschreibung

Bored out of his ears, Nile Claus longs for a holiday and excitement. Following his nose, he heads for Easter. On the long and wearisome journey, he stumbles upon well-meaning friends and makes some astounding discoveries. Are painted eggs really the solution to Nile Claus's non-existent problems? Charles Darwin would certainly disagree.

This is our protagonist, the adventurous Nile Claus, soon to be newly appointed globetrotter, only he doesn’t know it yet. He lives in Egypt and has been doing so for a very looong time.

Once upon a time, Nikolaos of Myra dropped by during summer break at the seminary for a little vacation. This holy student was totally charmed by Nile Claus’s smart red hat, so much so he wanted to wear one too. It really is a long story. Suffice to say it ends with Nile Claus turning up behatted.

No biggie though since it’s quite warm and sunny in Egypt. But his ears! His poor dainty little ears. Ah, ignore my lament. Go read The Nile Claus if you want to know what happened to his ears. Now, let’s get on with the trip.

One lovely day, Nile Claus was awfully bored. As usual, nothing exciting happened, actually, nothing at all happened, not even the same old. The waters of the celestial Nile looked murky, lacked sparkles although the sun’s rays fried Nile Claus. Or could he not see the glitter because scratchy sand stuck to his eyes? Either way, what a downlifting day.

Nile Claus didn’t even feel like frolicking with his buddy Hippo in the river or building a straw man.

That’s when fate snuck up on him and tempted Nile Claus to do something he never would have even considered before: he mulled and thought, reflected and pondered, reasoned and brooded, speculated and…groaned.

Since he wasn’t used to such strenuous activities, his head started aching. While he meditated over the hardships of life, an idea struck him. Yes, Nile Claus thought. I will travel! As the cogwheels in his head kept turning, he happened to invent the electric bulb, just a side effect. Lesson to be learned: Thinking is worth the pain and trouble.

Back to his brilliant main idea though: On vacation, he could laze on the beach, get a nice suntan, swim and play—in short, do all the things he never got around to otherwise.
