It was morning and I finally had time to myself. I’d gotten up early to get my kids ready for school. After seeing that they together with my husband had taken their packed lunches with them, I saw them to them bus.
I threw myself onto the couch to take a breather. Mornings were usually the busiest time of the day. Weekends were even worse because I couldn’t get anything done with everyone in the way.
I went to the kitchen to make myself a cup of my favorite green tea. I then sat in the porch sipping on my tea while I watched the morning unfold. There were still a lot of things to be done. There was the laundry, the vacuuming, the dishes but this moment was one I would never let anyone steal from me.
From my porch, I could see a few of the other housewives also getting their kids and husbands ready. Marie would be the last one out. Her kid was always late for school.
I tried not to envy Marie. Out of all of us wives, she was the most content with her life. She was very busy working from home. She had some tech job she would do while the kids and her husband were out of the house.
Even though she was the busiest of us, having to handle both her job and the household chores, she also seemed the happiest. We could badmouth her all we wanted but that was one thing we could never take away from her. Of course none of us would ever admit that to anyone but ourselves.
“Hey Jenna,” a petite redhead called me from her own porch.
