Movie stars, struggling actresses, and daring stuntwomen find love amidst the flashing lights of the red carpet in Jae's lesbian celebrity romance series. After taking sensual Valentine's Day pictures for her customers all week, photographer Michelle needs a break. An Anti-Valentine's Day party with a firm no-romance rule seems like just the right change of pace…until a captivating blonde walks in, making Michelle question every rule. "The No-Romance Rule" is a prequel to Jae's lesbian romance Departure from the Script but can be read as a standalone.

Author’s Note
Every now and then, I reread my own books. It might seem strange, but to me, it’s as comforting as a visit with old friends.
When I recently reread Departure from the Script, I realized that we never got to see Amanda and Michelle’s first meeting—and their first kiss—at the Anti-Valentine’s Day party. What we hear about it on the morning after sounded cute and hilarious, so I decided to write a short story about it, sharing all the details from Michelle’s point of view.
If you haven’t read the Hollywood Series yet, this will be the perfect starting point. And if you have, I hope you’ll enjoy revisiting my characters as much as I did.
Happy reading,
Jae

The No-Romance Rule
Jae
Michelle was the only single woman on earth.
Okay, not really, but after the week she’d had, it felt like it.
Every customer who had entered her studio had wanted the same thing: for her to take sensual boudoir photos of them as a last-minute Valentine’s Day gift for their significant other.
Usually, she loved using her camera to make people of all shapes, sizes, and ages feel sexy, but this week, her customers’ focus on romance reminded her how long it had been since she’d had a girlfriend to woo on Valentine’s Day—or any other day of the year for that matter.
Hell, at this point, if a woman stripped down to sexy lingerie in front of her, Michelle would probably get out her Nikon by pure reflex.
Michelle chuckled. She collapsed the reflectors she had used during the last shoot, neatly wrapped the cords, and put away her equipment. Just as she was backing up the photos of her last customer, the bell over the door jingled.
“Sorry,” she called toward the door. “We’re already closed.”
“Not for me, I hope, because I need your help,” her brother’s voice drifted over.
Michelle looked up.
Marty strode toward her. His usually tousled hair had been tamed into a shorter cut. Even the rebellious strands that always flopped onto his forehead had been trimmed into submission. He hadn’t worn his hair as short as hers since they’d been eleven and twelve. Back then, people had constantly mistaken them for twins because they had the same dark brown hair and brown eyes, even though Michelle was older by fifteen months and two days.
Apparently, her little brother had plans for tonight too. “Phew. Just you. I thought it might be another customer looking for Valentine’s Day photos.”
“Nope. Although this is Valentine’s Day-related.”
Michelle grinned. “You want me to take pictures of you in a sexy pink lace teddy or a garter belt?”
“Not today,” he said. “I didn’t shave my legs.”
Michelle burst out laughing. “Yeah, you’d probably need to take the day off for that project, Mr. Mammoth Legs. What kind of Valentine’s Day-related help do you need, then?” She shut down her computer to give him her full attention.
He walked over, pulled two ties from the pockets of his coat, and held them up for her to see. “Blue or gray?”
“You drove halfway across LA just so I could help you pick out a tie?”
“I wouldn’t have to if you had answered my texts.”
She fished her phone out of her back pocket and turned it on. She had seven messages from her brother. “Sorry. You know I turn my phone off when I’m with a customer.”
“So?” He waggled both ties.
Michelle eyed them. One was navy blue, the other charcoal gray with silver pinstripes. “What’s the occasion?”
Marty gave her a disbelieving look. “Hello? It’s Valentine’s Day! I’m taking Kim to a restaurant that doesn’t have a kids’ menu.”
“So not a funeral or an appointment with your investment banker,” she said dryly.
