Denise ran through the halls of her university desperate to get to class. She was an hour late. She had been late to class everyday that week. Coincidentally , all the classes she had been late for were Mr. Crane’s. As she bust through the class doors, she knew he would be livid.

Mr. Crane stopped teaching when she came in. He noticed how flustered and unkempt Denise looked. He couldn’t help but wonder why she chose to come anyway when she couldn’t even show up on time.

“Miss Parker. You’re late. You’ve been late everyday this week,” he said angrily. She paused at the doorway startled by his tone

“I’m so sorry sir. It won’t happen again,” she apologized profusely.

“That’s what you said yesterday and the day before that. Yet it has been happening over and over again. What am I to make of this Miss. Parker.”

“I am so sorry sir. I do apologize for the inconveniences. I promise to do better.”

“You will have to see me after class and then we can discuss the way forward,” he suggested.

She nodded profusely before going ahead to choose a seat. She had only walked a few steps before she fell flat on her face. The whole class burst into laughter. Denise’s face went red with embarrassment as she tried to get up.

“Miss Parker. Please hurry up. I will not have you distracting the class any longer,” Mr. Crane said sternly.
