Aloof workaholic Winter has never had a serious relationship before. When she's invited to go home with her girlfriend, Hannah, for the weekend to celebrate a family birthday, she isn't sure what to expect. The constant hugging and teasing from Hannah's family leaves Winter reeling, so she jumps at the chance to go fishing with Hannah's dad instead of spending the day at the spa with the rest of the clan. After all, the only thing she knows about fishing is that you're not supposed to talk. But instead of peaceful silence, Winter gets an important relationship lesson. "A Great Catch" is a short story sequel to Jae's lesbian romance Just a Touch Away.

A big thank-you to the awesome members of my Facebook group for readers, who are always willing to help me out with my research. While I was working on this short story, I posted in my Facebook group, asking if there was, by any chance, anyone who has any fly-fishing experience, and within half an hour, I had several volunteers, including someone who was on the US Women’s Fly Fishing Team!
Thanks so much to my fly-fishing experts, Gail, Brenda, Carol, and Teresa, to my awesome beta reader team, and to my editor, Claire!
It’s wonderful to have so much support and expertise available whenever I need it!
A Great Catch

Another burst of laughter came from the den.
Winter looked up from her laptop and glowered at the sliding door. How was she supposed to finish her ad testing when Hannah and her friend carried on like this while trying out new cuddle positions? Of course, she could have worked in her office instead of the living room, but they would need to leave for Sunriver in a minute anyway.
“What on earth is this supposed to be?” Hannah gasped out between giggles.
The last time she had sounded so breathless, it had been Winter getting horizontal with her—and not just for snuggle practice.
“It’s called The Pancake,” Valentina replied.
“Fitting,” Hannah said. “I feel like one.”
Winter couldn’t see them through the milk glass panels of the sliding door, but her vivid imagination pictured Hannah and her best friend in a tight embrace on the cuddle couch. She tapped the touch pad harder when a graphic didn’t upload as fast as she wanted.
Valentina mumbled something in Portuguese, then added, “Are you implying I’m too heavy?”
Hannah let out a squeak, probably because Valentina was tickling her.
The cuddle couch creaked as they rolled around, and their laughter got louder.
Winter closed her laptop with a sharp thump. Okay, that was enough.
Jealous? the annoying inner voice that sounded like her damn half sister asked.
Winter snorted. Please. She had never been jealous in her life, and she certainly wouldn’t start over some silly pancake. It was just time to leave for Sunriver, and she hated being late; that was all.
She jumped up, dropped the laptop onto the sofa, and rapped her knuckles on the sliding door. When the milk glass inserts rattled, she gentled her knocking. “Are you done pancaking? If we don’t leave soon, we’ll be late for your mom’s birthday party.”
Footsteps approached, and the door slid open, revealing Hannah—her dark brown hair tousled and her round cheeks flushed.
She looked so adorable that Winter couldn’t help smiling despite her annoyance at the last-minute cuddle practice.
Then Valentina appeared behind Hannah and tsked at Winter. “Relaxa! If you’re such a tight-assed grump in Sunriver, Hannah’s family won’t like you.”
“Hush! My family loves her. They already met her, remember?” Hannah pushed the sliding door fully open and wrapped her arms around Winter. Her warm breath tickled Winter’s ear as she rose up on her tiptoes and whispered, “Besides, I really love your tight ass.” She slid one hand down and squeezed Winter’s butt.
Winter let out a low groan and pulled Hannah even closer. Maybe being late to the birthday party wouldn’t be such a big deal. She just needed to get rid of Valentina and lure Hannah to the—
